I went registering with FI today to Macy's and C&B.  It was overwhelming!

Shoes, purses, makeup...yes, yes, yes...I can shop for those for hours.

Stuff for my imaginary house or apt. (FI and I will live together after we're married), I have no idea.  So many questions came to mind that I had no answer for! How many white wine glasses? Red wine? Pilsner? Formal dishes? Everyday dishes? How many serving platters?

Ok, I think you get the point.  AND it's not over yet.  We still have more to register for.

Did anyone feel overwhelmed while registering?

Oh my gosh! YES! I hated it, so did FI. I was SO excited about it, I thought it would be a blast. I soon found out that its not.

And after the wedding if ANYONE ever asks me what color towels we should get, or if the flatware goes with my china, or if our crockpot should be digital or have knobs.. I will seriously SCREAM!

We haven't started yet, but I feel like there's so much pressure that goes into it. I mean, we can't just blindly register for what we want, because we don't want to be selfish. But we're really into cooking and quality matters to us. So I'm both dreading and looking forward to it at the same time.

Wow - I'm impressed that you were able to do two stores in one day! My fiance and I were DONE after just Macy's. I'm still trying to talk him into doing another store, but he's resisting.

Ha ha, we didn't have fun registering either. Well, we had fun at Target, but only because we had dinner and drink(s) before hand. Nothing like getting tipsy and grabbing a scan gun!

But I totally understand. Its overwhelming in the store, and then you go home and log in online... and the possiblities are even more endless!

We registered just yesterday at BBandBeyond.  We had a good time but it was overwhelming and tiring.  And now as I look at what we've registered for I'm wondering what our guests will be thinking.  "Greedy Bride and Groom!"

Ugh, I am SO not into registering. We've lived together for almost 4 years, so it's not like we need anything. Registering for gifts when you can't figure out what you need is really stressful.

YES! it's like the dirty little secret noone tells you about. we did macys, and although we found some things we ultimately like, i think we're done going into department stores. we're going to do our other registry with depositagift.com and shop later.

I don't where you're planning to register, but Crate and Barrel has registry checklists that have suggested items and quantities. It was really helpful, even though I didn't follow it exactly.

As far as formal dishes/casual dishes, I think that's a personal call. If you think you're going to have a ton of formal parties, sure, go for the formal stuff. I decided to get a classic white dish that I could dress up or down, since I just don't have room for china. Just think about the way you live, how much you entertain, and it stops being so overwhelming!

We are in the middle of registering and I think it is pure hell. It's the number one thing FH and I argue about. We bought our house and bought what we needed then - which wasn't much since our two households blended together pretty well when we moved into his condo. The matching towels, dishes, silver, . . .blah. I'm with you Dana, what do you register for when you have what you need? The only thing I need and want is a leaf blower so I don't have to spend so much time sweeping my garage and rakeing leaves.

I wanted to register at BB&B but they are closing down stores in our state, including the closest one to us. I'm worried about not being able to return things, personally, but I haven't looked into how they are doing financially so it could be coincidental.

I'm so sorry it was bad for you!  I only registered for a few things and then we got cash from the rest of the guests.  We already had a house set up so we didn't need a lot of things.

Yes, VERY overwhelming and me & my fiance already live together!! We've gone back pretty much every weekend to update our registry because we feel like we missed out on something. I'd say just go with your gut & get what you think you'll need...the basics, toaster, glasses, silverware, pots & pans, etc. & a few decorative things. You'll need all of these things anyway & once you move in together things will piece together a lot better! & you may even be taking a few things back to exchange something, so that'll help out also after you move in!

My FI and I were just talking about this! We've decided to register at two stores. Target for electronics and a grill and BB&B for towels, sheets, pots and pans, cookware, decorative stuff etc. So, basically FI agreed to go to Target with me, but he doesn't want to go to BB&B since he "trusts my decorating instinct". And he is a horror to shop with because I like to take my time and consider my options and he's all rush, rush, rush, so I'm kind of relieved he'll only be going to one store with me...but is that bad that I'll essentially be registering at one store by myself? I think I'll probably bring a friend for support, but still.

We've been to BB&B 3 times and it's crazy overwhelming!  We'd pick stuff out, then think about whether we really needed it or had room for it, then change our minds, then think "Will people think we're greedy if we register for the $80 iron instead of the $20 one?"  We're going to one of the registry events this weekend at Crate and Barrel, so hopefully that will be more fun.  I agree with having food and drinks beforehand to take the edge off!

Oh no!!!! We have not registered yet, but are starting next weekend.  I have been so excited but now I'm a little..nervous?!  Do you think it would be helpful if we search the websites before going so we have more of an idea of what we like?

amyb - we're going to the Crate and Barrel registry event in STL on the 14th!

i thought it would be fun too. i was so wrong! although, it was good because i basically did everything online at bedbathbeyond and then we went to the store to add on some things that we weren't sure about. it was a lot of work to scour through the website to find things. when we went to the store my fiance was complaining about "just getting it out of the way" and when we got the scanner, he went crazy scanning everything! lol.

we go to crate and barrel this weekend to finish off our registries. i have a bunch of stuff already on the registry online, but there are a few things i wanted to look at before i put them in my registry.
