The advice I got was to do this ASAP after announcing your engagement. I think it’s a good idea to know where you want to register, and maybe get some classic basics on your registry, right away, because some people might want to get you an engagement gift off of it. I have no idea who does that, but I’ve heard it happens. 😉

On the other hand, items tend to get discontinued if you register for them too early, so I wouldn’t register for anything that is part of a set this far in advance. 😉

well I’m June, and Even though The Knot says to do mine in September, I think I’m going to wait til October…As much as I’d rather be able to register sooner rather than later.  I’m worried about items I regsiter for being discontinued.

I am on the amazon.com band wagon. A lot of major stores sell through amazon(cooking.com, Macy, Target, Chefs) I like that my guests will be able to shop around for items on my registry.

I started mine a few months ago just because I wanted to see how it all worked… and I was kiiinda excited to register.  However, I’ve found that a lot of the items I put on the registry are no longer available.

Unless you’re planning an engagement party, or any other shindig that might entice guests to bring gifts, I think it’d be a better idea to wait for a few more months.  Maybe around December?

Sorry I forgot to mention I just started mine, but have not given out the info yet. I want to fine tune it first.

Ugh I have no idea. I’m sort of not looking forward to it. Is that weird? It’s just so much pressure, plus we’re living in a tiny apartment and hoping to move sometime after the wedding. Anyway, I’m not sure when we’ll register. I think my mom’s friends are throwing me a shower in March, soo maybe I’ll register in…late November/early December?

i did mine 8 months before the wedding because we had family bugging us, they wanted to send an engagement gift, and who am i to say no to that?! i figure if items are discontinued, i can always go back and edit it, add more. it’s very easy to edit online now. plus, it’s hard for us to find time to go out and spend a few hours to go to each store and do that, we happened to have a weekend free, so i’m glad we got it out of the way.

I waited until about 5 months before the wedding.  The reason being is that there is so much stuff that becomes discontinued and even with doing it that close to the date, there is still a whole bunch of stuff that is discontinued that I now have to replace.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m on the registry everyday anyway (I’m nosy, I want to see if people are starting to buy things) and I keep tweaking it anyway.  I wouldn’t want to do it that far in advance anyway because it’s kind of cool to have done it closer to the shower and then you can start to see people buying things off of it.

The checklist I have in my planner tells me to register now, and I thought it was too early too, Ms. Shabby Chic!  I guess it depends if you have any wedding related events coming up that people would want to get gifts for, but I’ll probably wait until around December to register (5 months before the wedding).  Then I’ll just keep an eye on it to tweak things, like rol769 suggested, in case anything gets discontinued.

I saw that too on the knot.  But I didn’t want to start ours yet because I don’t want items to no longer be there come the spring.  I was thinking of just starting them with just a few things.  I have started a list of items we need in our home so I can go and get those items first and then add wish items later

I got engaged in May and registered in June.  We’ve already gotten a bunch of gifts.  It was really easy/fun.

We just registered this past weekend for an April wedding.  I wish we had done it right after we got engaged because one family member kept bugging us abotu where we were registered and now we have eight pasta bowls from C&B that aren’t our style at all!  I should have just returned them but I didn’t want to insult FI’s aunt.

I know we will definitely refine the registry a lot between now and the wedding, but was good to get the head start on seeing some things in the store.  For now we are just registered at BBB, but I guess we need to add another store too?

We registered for some basic items that are always in the stores stock, but we’ll wait to add other things until January.
