What did you register for for your casual dinnerware?  Did you only register for one set or did you register for more than one set in different styles?

We haven't picked ours yet.  The only dishes we have now are what I like to call grandmother dishes, as in, they belonged to our grandmothers.  FI has seen a few dish sets he likes.  He saw a set at Kohl's he really liked.  He is dead set against any dishes that have white in them at all.

My mom thinks we should register for Corelle dishes.  However, of the three places we've looked (BBB, Kohl's and C&B) only BBB had Corelle and they didn't have too many.  Of course I don't think that FI would like them because they are all mostly white with a pattern.  At any rate, the only places that seem to have a great selection of Corelle dishes are Walmart and Target, which I wasn't crazy over the idea at registering there.

And, can anyone recommend a nice set of pots/pans to register for?  We're not big foodies by any stretch of the imagination - we can barely get by in the kitchen, although I'd like to be able to cook at some point.  Anyways, so I think something like All Clad, Calphalon or Le Creuset would be a total waste on someone like me.  Anything a little more mid-range that is of good quality?  My sister's set is Faberware from when she registered in 1999.  The only set we've really looked at that wasn't high end was the Rachael Ray cookware set.

I looooooove my Corelle dishes.  I registered for those on Amazon.  I wanted to stay away from the floral patterns cause it was too much for my husband, but we both really liked these.  Just enough pattern not to be plain and very neutral.  (The black square are actually brown though)

I registered for the Capalon 13 piece stainless set.  I definitely am not a cook and was on the same page with all clad and stuff being a waste for a kitchen like mine.  That sets been great so far, and pretty much covers all the sizes I need.  I have a few all clad pieces from my mom too, and I cant tell the difference.

@pinkshoes:  Those are really nice!  My mom gets all Corelle dishes because she says they're so light and they tend to be more resilient to breaking and are good for every day use.

Your mom is right!   I've accidentally knocked one of the dishes or plates off the counter top really hard when I was wiping it down, and it landed on my tile floor wihtout even a chip.  I'm totally sold on how durable they are and loove how light they are and small they stack.

I think Target is a good place to register at, if only because they do have nice every-day stuff there.  It makes for a good budget-conscious choice for your guests.

I use Corelle all the time; some of the patterns have matching serving dishes as well!

Honestly, I'm not much of a cook either and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Calphalon Contemporary Non-Stick frying pans. Seriously, they are the BEST pans I have ever cooked on. The investment is really worth it.  They heat evenly, clean really easy and nothing sticks to them. I really can't even rave enough about them. I only have the set of the 2 frying pans and DH will be buying me the pots to go with them when the ones we have wear out (they're old... it's not too far off). I think the 12 piece set is like $400 and you can always use one of those 20% coupons for BBB on them.

As for plates, we have a set from Target called "Square Dial". They're ceramic and microwave/dishwasher safe. We really wanted plain white, square plates and they are perfect. We have place settings for 8.

    These are our dishes: http://www.target.com/p/Square-Dial-16-pc-Dinnerware-Set/-/A-10193600

These are the pots and pans, they have 3 different sets.

I love Corelle so much. I've had my (secondhand) set for four years now and have broken exactly one dish in that time. Corelle practically bounces when you drop it. I love it. FI and I both had the same white Corelle when we moved in together, so we're just replacing/upgrading pieces for our everyday, and registering for nicer china then. We're actually registered on Amazon for the Corelle (and a bunch of other stuff).

Our pots and pans, on the other hand, are an assortment. But our Calphalon are probably the best, although they're heavy as anything. We always had Farberware growing up and liked it just fine.

I used the Amazon universal registry to link to this Corelle pattern (since I couldn't find it on Amazon itself or various stores): http://www.shopworldkitchen.com/corelle/noir-dinner-plate-1094794

And then to supplement the plates, I also registered for plain white Corelle bowls and serving bowls on Amazon directly.
