I think you should still have a shower. People will either give you what they can afford and if all their money is going towards going to the wedding then I am sure that they will tell you. Plus, it is a good way for people that can't make it to the wedding to participate in the wedding festisties with you.
I had the same reservations as you. However, my family talked me into registering and having a shower. Actually, looks like I'll have two since our two families live across the country.
I agree that it is a way for people who will not come to the wedding to feel included.

We are having a destination wedding to Jamaica. My best friend and mom are wanting to throw a bridal shower anyway. I am on the fence about it because people are already going to be spending money on coming to Jamaica to see us get married. I dont want people to feel "obligated" to buy us a gift and come to the bridal shower on top of coming out to the wedding.
Our grandparents arent going to be coming and a few other people we know cant come, and thats really the only reason I am considering the registry. But how do I stress to people its not necessary to buy a gift if they are coming to the wedding, or at all really. I just feel so wierd about it lol.
Any advice hive?!
