I’ve been really struggling to put together our registry! We’ve been living together in an apartment for several years, and I’m kind of a budding minimalist, so we really do have everything we need. I’ve requested no gifts, and I mean it, but… my future mother in law is throwing a bridal shower, and other folks are just very generous, so I still need to get a registry together that reflects our life and needs.
Background: We’re quiet folk who spend a lot of time with close friends, but don’t do any formal entertaining. We don’t have hobbies that require a lot of equipment (e.g. no sports, no camping) and we prefer to stay home than go out (So no concerts, or skydiving 😛 )
Here’s a sampling of some of the more interesting ideas I’ve gathered based on other couple’s suggestions, wishlists, etc:
- Board game(s)
- Fireproof lockbox (for important documents)
- Luggage set
- Special seasonal decorations (e.g. a nice wreath)
- Luxurious throw blankets (for cozy winters)
- Gardening equipment (Like kitchen equipment, the nice stuff can be expensive to buy all on your own)
- Roomba (We already have one, but I freakin’ love that little robot)
- Collectible versions of treasured books
- Artwork or art pieces
- Tools (We’re looking forward to a screwdriver set!)
Anyone else have any great ideas beyond the usual linens-and-kitchen items? Or things you wish you had registered for?

Register for a sous vide. We have the one from Anova. Google it, it seems weird but it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

I wish we had registered for more sheets/duvet covers. Boring, but they do wear out!

nanoinfinity: Tools and a tool box are definitely a huge one that we put on ours. We both love to do little projects around the house so it helps. If you enjoy camping you could put stuff like that on there.

nanoinfinity: You sound a lot like us! We joined households, didn’t want gifts or contributions, had everything we needed, and prefer minimalism — which made it difficult to register as most guests like to shop from the registry.
You already listed many of the best suggestions. I particularly like that you plan to put gardening supplies on yours — hobby related items are always great. We similarly registered for items related to our hobbies such as various food making kits and cookbooks, canning goods, a hummingbird feeder, and a whiskey ice cube tray.
Another item we received was a dvd about our honeymoon location. It was really cool to watch and learn about our destination. If you are going on a honeymoon, you could put items that you’ll need for your locale such as a new camera, guide books, weather appropriate attire, etc.

leftcoastleisure: Oh, I like the idea of honeymoon guides! We unfortunately have to postpone our honeymoon indefiniately, but that’s a great suggestion for folks who are heading out right after their wedding.

FH and I have an established home, so we are using our regiatry for items that we have had for a while and are wearing out. Ex- blender, towels, curtains, rugs for bathroom, pots/pans.
Our things are left over from college/grad school, so we’re registering for items that are nicer than we previously had.

We are registering for gift sometime this month and are in the same boat. We’re mainly going to upgrade, replace, or ask for new things for our list. I also keep telling him that we could get stuff for the future, for when we move into a bigger house in a couple years.
We merged our things last summer when I moved in with him (pre-engagement), so a lot of stuff was gone through in both households at that time. It would just be nice to start having some of “our” own things, rather than what was his and what was mine.
Your list is really good, and I may snag some additional ideas from that!

Gardening stuff! One of my favorite gifts was a raised bed garden kit. It’s so great.
