Bumping, because I have the same thing going on. Especially in a text message, I feel so weird answering!

Don’t feel weird! Registries are quite common. These people are asking because they want to get you something and they want to make sure it’s something you need. If you’re a nice/grateful/considerate person in general, these people know you’re not expecting a gift.

ETA: I just realized I completely didn’t answer your question. If I were you, I’d say something like “How nice of you to ask! We’re registered at XYZ.” I think that gives the impression that you’re not expecting anything and you’re grateful that they’re thinking of you.

I getcha. Whenever anyone asked us I almost felt bad, like I was jumping on their generosity or something. There really is no way to sugarcoat informing your guests where you’re registered, hah, so I always just answered very, very casually. Gave a polite smile and said, “Oh, we’re registered at ___________,” then quickly went into a line about something else wedding related.

It’s funny, all the stigmas associated with registries and gifting in general, huh?

@jules28:  I wouldn’t say anything about well-wishes, etc.  Just tell your boss where you’ve registered and that’s it.  If you say something about not getting you a gift, he/she may feel like they have to say “of course I want to get you something”.  To me, it would just be awkward.

I’d say something like this:

Thank you so much for thinking of us!  We’ve registered at

.

Short, sweet, and to the point.

I get feeling bad…I always did too.
