I haven’t been invited to many weddings/showers on my own, but my dad and stepmom have had me go shopping for them several times, and they ALWAYS wait until the very last minute. Well I guess that’s why they always made me go shopping for them lol. One time, they called me the morning of the wedding (we were leaving in an hour!) and had me go to the mall to buy them something from their registry! They probably aren’t the best example though lol. I would probably buy things 3-4 weeks in advance, depending on when I got paid and how much advance notice I had. Well and I guess on how close I was to the person. If I’m closer to you, I’m more excited for you, and want to get you a present sooner! Haha

I usually get things on my way to the shower or a day or two before. Sometimes what happens is people buy things on the registry but then whatever they buy isn’t taken off the registry when they buy it. That happened at the last shower I went to. I bought something that 3 other people bought because it was still on the registry.

@iheartnerds:  Yeah. That’s what my friend said she was going to do. If that happens for me I just plan on exchanging the duplicates. But she also got duplicates of towels but loved that cuz she said she couldn’t have enough towels.

Most people purchased the shower gift the day before the shower or the day of, in person. Only one was purchased online, out of 25 gifts given at the shower (a few more were purchased online by people who couldn’t attend). However, it’s one month before the wedding and many, many of the wedding gifts have been purchased online. But evidently for the shower people wanted to shop in the store!

We received a few things we didn’t register for – mostly from my mother’s friends. A few of our bffs gave off-registry gifts in addition to gifts from the registry (mostly things that they knew we would love, like cookbooks, specific cooking supplies my fiance would go gaga over, etc). We also got a fantastic piece of artwork my cousin made, which was probably our favorite gift.

I personally always buy my gift the day I get the invitation… otherwise I’ll forget.

People mostly bought things the week and a half before the shower. And the days immediately after the shower, a few more things were purchased from a few people who couldn’t make it to the event.

Btw, I’m registered on Amazon, so people had incentive to purchase with enough time for it to ship if they were buying it online, otherwise they just went on and clicked the “Purchased this item elsewhere” link.

Most people bought from my registry and then got a couple small things/clothes elsewhere, though a few people got me some non-registry things like clothes, a baby book, photo album, homemade things, etc but those were all really nice so I didn’t mind 😉

@iheartnerds:  First of all, I’ve discoverd that people suck when it comes to RSVP. For my bridal shower my SIL and bridesmaid as well as my MIL didn’t even RSVP to the shower my mom threw me! They showed up, but I think people aren’t as diligent about RSVPing or they tend to do it super late. The other thing is, most people shop off a registr last minute. I went to a baby shower lately and I myself was really late getting a gift because I had planned something else which didn’t work out, anyhow a couple of days before the shower there were tons of things left and then the day before when I went to get my gift, the list had dropped down dramatically. People are procrastinators 🙂
