Hmm, I would seriously consider registering for more lower priced items. Some people like to put toether a gift with different items rather than just one big thing. Also, if your Fi thinks that if you register for small things, that's all his family will get you, then that is what they are going to give you anyway. I don't really think you can 'trick' people into buying you bigger gifts because that is all that is on the registry. Are you having any showers? We had a pretty sizeable registry and it was practically all purchased from the showers and we got mostly money for wedding gifts.

Is anyone else weirded out by the whole registry process?
I find myself torn between wanting to register for everything I ever wanted to feeling like registering is stupid, especially for the "fine china" etc. But then I realize that someday I'm goign to want fine china for speciall occasions and when else am I really going to get it? My FI was totally AGAINST the registry idea at first until I told him that if we didn't register we'd likely end up with 50 crystal vases. His hope was that we'd end up with mountains of cash only gifts -- which in one way appeals to me, but in another it seems so mercenary and there is something to be said for having keepsakes and not just cash!
We compromised by doing a small registry at Macy's and also a honeymoon registry, but we are only putting high value items on there (most htings are $100 and up). This was HIS idea because he says he knows his family (big family) and if we put things like measuring spoons and dishtowels, half his relatives will buy us a potholder and a teacup and call it a day.
I also found myself feeling sad that I had to compromise on some of the stuff i liked, because we don't share the same taste in everything, but that's what marriage is all about I guess! :o)
Anyway I find this all very weird, just wondering how it's worked for all you gals?
