I'm getting married next week. Yay. Our rehearsal is Thursday, and I'm trying to find a place for the darn dinner.

The issues all began about three weeks ago, when my wonderful future grandmother-in-law rescinded her offer to pay for the rehearsal dinner. This has been her promise to us since November of last year, and suddenly, when reality hit and we asked her for her opinion on restaurants, she decided she'd rather not host.

    Great.

While other family members (of mine) have offered to gift it, we don't want it as a gift. We'd rather pay for it ourselves and deal with it.

I've called four bowling allies in the area-- all of them have leagues on Thursday that consume the place in our time slot. One is available, but is a half hour away. I called two nearby restuarants, one a nice pizzaria. They declined my reservation for 18 people because there's a sports game on TV. Really?!?!?! The other restaurant only reserves for more than 20, and all folks must be accounted for prior to seating.

We're trying to do this on a budget. 15-18 people for around $250. I'm fine with pizza in the park, except it's too dark and there's no park nearby!

I'm fed up with this. This has been THE most stressful part of planning. And that's lame.

I'm thinking of telling everyone to eat beforehand (rehearsal is at 6), and we'll take them out to Coldstone for dessert.

Has anyone else skipped the rehearsal dinner or done a dessert thing?

It would create more stress, but could you have the dinner at your home? I would just have pizza and salads delivered (or you could pick them up on your way).  If you don't want that stress right before the wedding (and I don't blame you), would another member of your bridal party or family be able to have it at their house?

That's really tough. Maybe you should just have sandwhiches...

I've never heard of someone saying there isn't a rehersal dinner, but there is ice cream...

@vmec: It's about 45 minutes to the nearest house that could host, and we're all staying close to the venue. --so catering at home isn't really the best option.

@Ms. Gremmlin: I'd either have it at your house, our a family members. You can get some nice trays of lasagna, salads, etc. and easily stay within your budget.

Edit: Oops, just saw your post.

@Bostongrl25: Yeah, that was our first thought, but it's really inconvient for all but 4 people. That's why I'm at a loss.

There's gotta be more pizza shops around. How about sandwich shops?

Will you guys be at a hotel (I noticed your wedding is out of town) can you use a meeting room and get delivery?

I know around me there are good family style italian restuarants that are cheap. Try that maybe?

@regberadaisy: The rehearsal is at an aquarium in downtown Tampa, so the area is pretty busy. We'll be staying a hotel, but I hadn't thought of trying to reserve a meeting room there. Thanks!

Wow, this is tough... Maybe see if there is a resteraunt or hotel that will let you rent a conference room?

Do you have a local community center/moose lodge/vfw you can bring food into?

    @Ms. Gremmlin:

What about asking if the aquarium has a meeting room for rent? I would think they would have some kind of meeting/presentation space?

ETA: I was going to check for you but man there are a lot of aquariums in downtown Tampa!

@regberadaisy: It's the Florida Aquarium :) It closes at 5, and honestly, they have enough of our money!! haha Thanks!! I'll take a look at those links! I just didn't think this would be the most difficult part of planning!

I'm going to look into reserving a meeting room at the hotel. That sounds like the best idea.

@Ms. Gremmlin: The hotel we stayed at for my friends wedding just a few months ago let us use their conference room for free for her rehersal, yours might let you do this also.
