I am starting to research our rehearsal dinner, which we want to have in Queens. I have never planned a party in a restaurant before, so I am not quite sure what to expect in terms of cost. My fiance’s family loves a local Irish bar that has fantastic burgers, and they quoted us $18/person (but will not serve us burgers). A more upscale Italian place in LIC quoted us $37/person for a 4-5 course meal. Based on their menu prices, this seemed quite reasonable to me. Is anyone willing to share their per-person cost for their rehearsal dinner? Or, does anyone have any great recommendations for a Queens rehearsal dinner spot? We’re getting married in LIC so western Queens is ideal.

Do you have a budget from your FI’s family?
Ours was like $750ish for 35 people. So needles to say, $37 would have been waaaay out of our price range. We went with a nearby casual italian place. Also what are you serving for your reception? We wanted to avoid same food two nights in a row.

Good questions. I have no idea what the budget is! (Can you believe?) They were supposed to be planning (I thought) and then it kind of fell into our laps. I figured I would call around to some restaurants we like and see what the going rate is. I believe the FILs would like to not spend too much, but I am also taking into account that my FMIL prefers to be at familiar places where she is comfortable. So I am starting with restaurants where we’ve been together. I know “expensive” is relative to the family, but they are middle-class… not big spenders but not on a shoestring either.
You just reminded me that I should probably get in touch with our caterer I also have no idea what we’re serving. It likely won’t be Italian though.
Thanks for your input!

we are doing a set menu at a chinese resto for $40++ per person. it’s not cheap but for midtown manhattan, it’s not overly expensive either. sorry i’m not familiar w/ queens at all.

Ours was just outside of Philadelphia at a brewery, so it’s a little different than what you’re looking at, but I at least have some prices to give you. Ours was a 4 course brewmaster’s dinner, and included a 10oz beer with each course. It was $34/person and we had a 25 person minimum.

@pvaulter – that sounds awesome! FI and I are really into beer, if there were a brewery close enough to our venue we totally would have pursued that. We are settling for serving local kegs at the RD and reception.

- Wedding: October 2009 - Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & Terrace
We’re doing ours at a Cuban place in Midtown for about $25 a person. Good luck!
