We decided on a backyard bbq. It's more us. We had a hard time asking our parents to help pay for the wedding as it was. So we are having my FMIL and FFIL bring pork, salads, hot dogs, hamburgers and just grilling out in our backyard. It's a more laid back atmosphere that saves money all around and we will still have a good time playing lawn games. Couldn't ask for anything better. It's different if your rehearsal is a distance from your home or you don't have the home space to support 35 people.
However, my brother and SIL for their wedding found that doing any type of buffet and renting a space at a lower key place saved a lot of money, and it was all you can eat. They had a burger bar that they did at a golf course and it was only a couple hundered for all you can eat up to 30 people. Well worth it.
I believe we're doing 40 people at the Italian Club where we belong. The food is unbelievable and inexpensive...so is the alcohol. We've budgeted $1000 for rehearsal dinner.
We are having a Wisconsin tradition - Friday night fish fry! We are doing it buffet style and the total cost will be about $500 for 30 people.
Rehearsal dinners don't have to be expensive!! We did 20 people with tons of cocktails and apps for $250. It was fun!
A bbq is a great idea too!
The purpose of the evening is just to have fun and thank your party. Not to break the bank if you don't have the means!
I think we are going to a little cafe a little later at night so we can have the majority of the space. We are having 3 or 4 dinners for everyone to choose from and they are reducing the price for us per person and we can bring in wine and beer for a small fee. I think it will be about $300 for 30 people.

My step-father offered to pay for our rehearsal dinner, which was amazingly kind of him. But I don't want to go overboard with the cost so I was wondering what most people pay for their rehearsal dinner? We'll have about 35 people and it's in a sort of expensive area but we don't want anything fancy.
