I don't wear dresses often. When I was dating my ex, he had annual Christmas parties, so I have three gowns, which have all been worn only once, since that's the only formal event I've ever gone to. I didn't even go to prom.

I had one go-to dress. It was a balck and white patterned strapless A line cocktail length dress, in a light linen fabric. I loved it and wore it to both graduations, and all of the other wedding's I've gone to. However In the last few years I've gained a few pounds and nearly an entire cup size, so it doesn't fit.

Now, I have to find a dress for my rehearsal dinner and for my FBIL's wedding which is in October. I want something a little more formal than a summer dress, but something that is also daytime appropriate. I LOVE J Crew and the Ann Taylor Celebration line, but they are out of my budget. I also can't wear any burgandy or red, since that's the color of my FBIL's bridesmaids dresses. I'm tall and athletic built. And I have a teeny tiny budget. (Under $70). I don't wear dresses enough to justify spending more than that.

Any suggestions out there? There are a lot of cute bridesmaids dresses that I'd consider, and I have been looking to find one second hand, but haven't come up with anything in a color I like that is my size and in my budget. I'd like to stick to black/white, dark blue, or dark grey.

I've looked online, but not in stores yet. Help!

I would try going to Marshalls, Ross, TJMaxx, etc. They usually have cute, high-quality dresses for not too much money. Last time I went into Ross they were having a dress event, too. Good luck!

I was just going to say that  ^^^!  A lot of the time you can find things that were just in department stores for a lot less at Marshalls, Ross, etc.  It sometimes takes a little extra work, but you can find a lot of steals.

Ditto the TJ Maxx or Marshall's suggestion.  I always find great dresses there for fairly cheap.

Or you could trying posting in classifieds with what you're looking for - I bet SOMEONE has a dress they could sell you!!

Oh!  I also wanted to add that Ann Taylor Loft has an extra 40% off sale items right now (with code SALE40) - I was looking earlier today and there *may* be some dresses on there that could work.

    Good luck!

@hotchildinthecity  I LOVE the Sophia dress from J Crew, but it's the BMs' dress for FBIL's wedding. There are even 2 colors on sale that I love!

I will definitely try TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I don't know if there is a Ross near where I live, but I'll look it up.

She gives some really cute dress ideas for different ocasions, and tells you how much they are and were to get them.

I also recommend TJMaxx- I just found a few great dresses there and they were all less than $60. Good luck!

I agree with emily, Ebay is my go to place. I just got a super cute dress for $16.00 that included shipping too!
