I'm in the midst of stalking J. Crew's sale section and waiting for them to have an extra 20/extra 30 percent off sale.  I'm attracted to two rehearsal dinner dresses, and would love everyone's opinion!

Just an FYI, I'm pretty tall (5'8"), size 8, and large busted 34DD.  In fact my worry with the "Robin" is that I won't find a bra to work with it.

Choice 1 - Robin short dress (in light amethyst)

Choice 2 - Cotton cady Sydney (in peppermint)

Oh, I can't decide.  How formal is your rehearsal? If it's formal -I'd say Robin. Less formal, more casual - I'd vote Sydney.

I really like the Sydney dress!   I see what you mean about finding a bra for the Robin dress - that might be a pain to deal with.  I'm sure there are many other things you have to worry about before the wedding to have to add finding a bra for your rehearsal dinner dress to your list.  Go with the Sydney :)

You've got to try them on.  Otherwise, I love the Robin.

Sydney! If you're a 34DD, you're going to need more support than you can get with Robin. I'm 32D and I couldn't wear Robin!

I vote for Sidney. I think it would work a lot better with a large chest!

But does the Sydney have a low back?  The Lyndsey dress I bought had a lower back so it can't be worn with a bra.  They don't seem to have pictures posted of the back of it.  I am in the 34 DD club too, so not wearing a bra is not an option

Thanks for the input, ladies! Unfortunately, I can't order both/try on because of J. Crew's stupid final sale policy!

My rehearsal dinner is nice, but not super-formal.  It's at a cafe-type restaurant and the actual rehearsal will be outside, not in a church.

I voted for Robin. I think a normal strapless bra would work with that. They make some that do have a low back for a strapless and sell for a reasonable prece. Believe me, I have a hard time finding dresses that would be fit my twins (38DDD).  I have a LBD that is similar to the Robin & I have a normal strapless to go with it.

I just think the Robin is a bit more sexy.

    @hotchildinthecity-

You can TOTALLY order them both, try them on and return one, even though it's a final sale, I've done it tons of times! If you're really worried, just call their customer service, tell them it's wedding related and have them make a note of it on the order. I literally ordered three pairs of final sale shoes and returned two of them for a full refund!

Also, my friend wore the Robin to a wedding in the fall in navy and while it was very pretty, I wasn't head over heels for it. Personally, I like the Sydney better!

I am also for the sydney. Breast wise I am about the same size, and I like knowing my girls are wrapped up pretty tight - maybe from having some embarrassing moments in early days when they decided to peek out. I have also found that anything empire waist helps me not look like I have a bag on me when it comes to dresses.

I vote for the second one.

The top one has that kind of neckline that tends to make busty girls look bustier. I don't think it'll do much for your figure except "blocK" you out.

And i really like the peppermint color!

Since you're a student, go place your oder in store (even if the item is only available online), tell them you're a student, and reap the 20% discount girl!

PS if you wear a size 4, I found this dress on banana republic earlier and was sad it didn't come in my size:

    http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=26497&vid=1&pid=670862

then again i don't think you could get your boobs in there.

But i really liked this one, too: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=26497&vid=1&pid=702610

Can you tell I was online shopping at work this morning? =]

@trailmix: Thanks for the tip!  I may very well try that (esp. because I'm going to be spending a fortune there anyway ordering various things)

    @ejs: I am not a size 4 in my wildest dreams ;o)

@everyone else: Thanks for all of the input :o)

My favorite is the Robin short dress. I love the look of silk the other dress' material looked really casual and laid back. Which is the look you are going for? Have you chosen which dress your getting? I haven't chosen my rehearsal dinner dress yet.

@everyone: I ordered the Sydney in peppermint!  I will let you know how it works out.

My sister got the silk chiffon twist tank dress in sweet cantaloupe.  Hopefully this is one more thing crossed off the list ;o)

I bought both of them for different things, so I can give you a first hand opinion. I'm a size 10 and my boobs are a lot smaller...

The Robin dress is more striking looking than it is on the model. However, I think this dress works better for small busted woman as the bra situation is a definite problem.

The Sydney actually looks like the photo. its a bit more built up inside so you receive some extra support. However, the bust, because of how it's gathered really accentuates the bust area.

Hmm. I don't think I recommend either one for you...

Update: I received my J. Crew package yesterday.

The Sydney dress is a total no-go.  It was really too tight on top and then created this weird pooch because it was too big on the bottom.  It was also WAY too short.  I'm not super-tall (5'8") but this dress would have been indecent in length even if it did fit.

I also ordered the silk taffeta wrap dress for FI's upcoming benefit.  I know I have weird proportions, but I thought this dress would be good for someone with a large chest.  WRONG.  It was so tight on top and HUGE on the bottom.  It poofed out so big that I looked seriously preg.

I'm going to give J. Crew a call tomorrow and have a little discussion with them.  All of the dresses that I'm looking at are online only and often final sale.  So there's nowhere to try them on and I'm going to tire quickly of paying their shipping costs to send these dresses back and forth.  I'm feeling VERY discouraged right now because I have the WORST time shopping for dresses and thought that some of my problems could have been solved with this package.  Oh well....back to the drawing board...

Oh no, good luck! JCrew has really great customer service, maybe you'll get a sympathetic person on the phone. Make sure you mention how much you buy their stuff and how "off" these fit!

What about victoria secret dresses? I have two, in L, and they both fit comfortably in the chest.

Alas, there's always Ebay or Weddingbee Classifieds =(

And i hate "final sale" things. makes me uncomfortable to buy stuff! did you look through nordstroms? i'm sure you did already....they're having a good sale right now

@EJS: Definitely branching out in my search soon.  I just got a little overzealous when I saw so much I liked on J. Crew.  I'm the type of person that needs to try on before I buy because I have such a weird body shape.  I just jumped at the opportunity of not having to drag myself from store to store for the next four months haha.

    Cache has cute stuff

But i feel your pain. i have the same problem with clothes and have to put things back on the rack all too frequently.

banana republic dresses always fit me well. This would look good on you I think (not that i know you but the top looks lke a LOT of stuff in my closet): and it comes in a pink color you may like better, too. http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=48110&vid=1&pid=734533
