Oh! I am also going to buy stuff for smores, any thoughts on how many bags of marshmellows, gram crackers, chocolate bars I should buy??
50 people - I'd estimate a couple cans of soda and 2-3 bottles of water each. As for s'mores, estimate each person may make 2? I'd say that's reasonable. The good thing about all of this is if you overbuy, you can always return the unopened stuff!
I know for beer/wine, the rule of thumb is 2 drinks the first hour, one drink per hour after..
We're actually doing something pretty similar, minus the smores and fire and plus beer - your catering quote is right on target with the one we got.

FI and I are planning on having a BBQ/BonFire Rehearsal Dinner at my sister's amazing pergola. We plan on spending $1000.00 on this total since it is pretty simple and we live in a small area. I have already bought the plates, cups, decorations, etc. and it ran me $250.00 We are having a caterer prepare all the food for $591.04 and that will feed 50 people (48 currently invited and 9 are kids under 12) We made the decision to not provide alcohol since we didnt want to encourage too much drinking the night before the wedding. I am going to make big batches of lemonade and ice tea to go in large drink dispensers and we will provide soda and bottled water but I have no clue how much I should buy! Anyone out there have a magic formula for how to calculate how many bottles of water and cans of soda I should buy??
