- Wedding: July 2011
My parents paid for the rehearsal dinners for both of my brother’s weddings and they went all out for them, spending about $4,000 each….open bars, nicest foods, awesome locations etc.
Then I started planning my wedding and, able to or not, FI’s parents are not helping us with anything, including the rehersal dinner…and my parents are pretty strapped with the donation they already made to our wedding cost. I wanted something equally nice and ‘fancy’ but we’re paying for so much of the wedding too that we just couldn’t afford another $4,000 expense!
Anyway, with a lot of searching around, we’ve settled on having the dinner at the wedding location (we have it rented for the entire weekend). Then I found a caterer who will provide two appetizers, two entree selections and a dessert for 38 people for about $900. That plus alcohol, a few cheap linens and flowers from Wegmans has us feeding almost 40 people a very nice ‘fancy’ dinner, enough alcohol to keep spirits high for the night and yummy dessert.
All totaled we’re spending about $1,500!!! YAY!! Just a testament that lots of searching and hard work can really pay off!
