I like Bambara in the Hotel Marlowe (near Cambridgeside Galleria). The food is excellent (friends of mine got married there, and they cater all the events held at the hotel. There are a ton of other restaurants I love in Cambridge, but I'm not sure they'd fit the quieter bill. Close to ECG is Ole, but not sure if you want a tapas type meal. I'll repost if I think of anything eles
have you considered West Side Lounge? I don't think they have a private function room, but it's small enough that it probably doesn't get TOO loud in there. From their website:
We are so thoroughly in love with private parties at West Side Lounge. Guests enjoy a custom menu and, naturally, a special cocktail created just for them. Events range from intimate dinner parties, where guests are very much part of the restaurant scene, to larger cocktail parties, weddings, birthday bashes, fundraisers... you name it; we'll plan it! Groups of up to twenty-five people can be accommodated when the restaurant is open, and there is also an opportunity to reserve the entire restaurant for a lunch, cocktail, or dinner event. We love working with our guests to create a memorable experience!
Those are great suggestions. I have eaten at Bambara for restaurant week before and it was excellent. I have never eaten at Westside Lounge, but I'll have to check it out.
Thanks!
FI and I ended up eating lunch at Bambara to celebrate after my PhD defense, too...I have so many good memories there I guess. We were trying to go to the the Helmand, but they were closed for lunch.
BTW, what about EVOO? I've actually never been there, but I always heard it was good.
There are also some good options in Davis Square, but most of what I can think of is ethnic fare which you may not want.
Oh, there's always Legal Sea Foods! I've been to an event there with about 20 people. No separate room, but it was actually pretty quiet and we were all able to talk (the Cambridge one, in Harvard Sq. near Charles Hotel).
I think my FI has been to Legal Seafoods quite a bit since he always went there whenever his lab had a visiting professor. I think he may actually be sick of it. I've never been though.
I just called Bambara and they don't have a separate room but they said they would try to keep other diners away from our table.
The more I think of it, it would be really nice to have the separate room. Our families have never met, so it would be nice if there were room for everyone to talk rather than just talking to whoever they sit next to.
I fear our group will be too small to warrant an extra room though.
two more suggestions, both with private rooms: Gran Gusto in Cambridge and Henrietta's Table at the Charles Hotel.
casablanca in harvard square, chez henri, ohm, elephant walk (loved this place)
I would like to second Henrietta's Table. We held our RD there and it was fabulous. Also since you have a smaller party you should try Red House in Harvard Square. They have private rooms upstairs and they do a wonderful dinner!
What about Upstairs on the Square? The room they use for private parties overlooks part of the Square and is really quite nice at night. The food is always good and the atmosphere is fun and lively.
The Legal Seafoods in Kendall Sq. does have a private room- we used it for our rehearsal dinner and loved it!
I like EVOO but they don't really have a private room. I third Henrietta's Table as an option. I've only been there for brunch (phenomenal) but I've heard good things about it for dinner and they offer private rooms.
Thanks all. I think we are going to go with the Elephant Walk. It gets such rave reviews and they were very accommodating. The prices are very reasonable too!
I'm about a month late to post here -- but in case you are still looking. I highly recommend Oleana. You can reserve their outdoor garden, and the food is to die for.
in case you still need recs, my team at work recently rented out Amelia's Trattoria near kendall square. its a small place that will fit about 25-30 people and its pretty at night because the restaurant is all windows and you can see into the kitchen a little bit, so its like they are cooking for you on the spot.

Does anyone have any ideas for a place to have a rehearsal dinner? We are having about 15 people or so. The price range would be along the lines of the East Coast Grill, but we'd like something that has a little more privacy...either a separate function room or just quieter than ECG.
Any thoughts?
