How about C&O Trattoria? It's in the Marina, so pretty close. I'm not sure if they have a private room, but it seems like a fun place to have a rehearsal dinner! It may not be what you're looking for, but it came to mind instantly when I read your post :)

One of my favorite restaurants in Santa Monica is the Enterprise Fish Company. I actually used to work as a hostess there many years ago!They have a semi-private area in the back of the restaurant or a patio that can be reserved for private parties. The place is always busy, laid back atmosphere, good food (seafood) and service - biggest obstacle would be pricing. You'd have to check if they have any specials or packages for rehearsal dinners. It's worth taking a look.
You could try Fritto Misto... I think it's on Colorado and 6th or 7th maybe... it's Italian, has low corkage, pretty inexpensive, yummy food, and there is a back room there that I have seen taken over by private parties.
On Main Street, there's the Library Ale House, you could take over the patio area. And there's also Lula's, for Mexican, but I've never actually eaten there.
Squishy622's idea of C&O is good, they have another location on Washington called C&O Cucina, there are private rooms there and I think it's way less crowded than the trattoria.

We had our rehearsal dinner at C&O Cucina, there was a private room upstairs and seriously, the food is HEAVEN!

hey guys,
anyone have any suggestions for santa monica dinner venues? my future inlaws are on my butt about where we should have the rehearsal dinner (our wedding isnt until june 09!) most of out oot will be staying in santa monica. we are looking for a restaurant that has a private room and the biggest obstical is affordability! any recommendations?? thanks!!!
