Try the Brick Alley Pub! its great, and has the private room upstairs!
Good luck
hmmm...I lived in RI for almost 4 years for law school.
Yes, Brick Alley Pub is a great idea!
Or El Parque is a mexican restuarant in Portsmouth RI (which is still on the Island - its about 10-15 min drive north of newport). It really casual and cheap and best mexican food in RI!
The Clarke Cooke House in Newport...amazing food..but may be expensive. They do have a room where you may be able to rent out.
The Black Pearl...also has a room, but may be expensive
Salvation Cafe..electic food, funky art & its a small place, so you could probably take up one side of the restuarant no problem.
The Red Parrot is great, it's right on Thames, the menu is vast and reasonably priced, the food is good and it has plenty of space with an upstairs for large groups.
I also love the Black Pearl it'S less casual but has the best clam chowder.
If you are looking for more casual you may want to try the Roadhouse (Maybe it'S called Smokehouse) Cafe, it's acoss from the Brick Market Place on the water side. Think BBQ ribs but not completely casual. They have a great deck but I don't know about a private area.
Thanks for all your help. We ended up booking Sardella's. We liked it because it is Italian and won't be anything like the dinner on Saturday night at the OceanCliff. I tried the Brick Alley Pub but they acted like I was crazy when I called 9 months in advance. You have to book there at least a year in advance.
Thanks again!
I, too, am looking for rehearsal dinner ideas in Newport but for weddign July 5th. DOes anyone have recommendations on affordable clambakes options (beach access, park, restauraunt etc)
I second Atlantic Beach Club- they have a clambake option too I think. That's where we were originally going to have our rehearsal dinner before we changed our wedding plans.
Have you found somewhere yet? You can look at the Regatta Place, its their sister location, and they offer great deals. We are doing our wedding at the Regatta Place and our rehearsal at the OceanCliff upper deck in July :)

Hi Girls,
My fiance and I are getting married in Newport May 22, 2010. Our reception is at the OceanCliff Hotel and are very excited about the location. I was wondering what people are doing about their rehearsal dinner. We are looking for something more casual since the wedding is pretty formal. Does anyone know any great spots that are reasonable in price?
