So almost every day, I have been experiencing a type of soreness pain on the muscles of my mid-back on my right side. It only is irritated when I sit or sometimes when I am laying on my sides. On occasion, I have the hubs rub that side of my back with his thumb and it does the trick for the night. Now that it is happening sooner in the day, I am looking for non-medicinal ways to help relieve the pain.

My Mom and a co-worker had suggested using a tennis ball. This does not seem to be working. Do you have any ideas or things you have done to help yourself out while you were preggie?

This preggie lady needs help, por favor!

Mrs. DG and I were just talking about this yesterday!  I have been experiencing pain in my back, especially after sitting for a long time at my desk.  I've found that straightening my posture helps a lot to relieve the soreness, but it's hard for me to keep perfect posture for 8 hours a day.  Tomorrow, I'm going to bring in a couch pillow to (hopefully) help me keep in a good posture.

Mrs. DG suggested a maternity support belt (like this one).   Also, my hips have started hurting after really long walks, and apparently maternity belts help with this problem, too.  I ordered mine last night!

If you feel comfortable doing it, I'd try some yoga or moderate to light pilates to strengthen your back muscles. Obviously you can't do some of the best exercises (like supermans!) but I'm sure there are plenty of lower impact ones that might help.

@Mrs Spring - Thank God you two had that convo yesterday! I am really having a hard time with this and I knew my back would be an issue with my pregnancy. I will definitely look into buying a support belt!

ugh... I've been having a lot of back pain also. I have a rib that always goes out and it causes me a lot of discomfort. I've had several adjustments but the relief only lasts so long. I've found the heat helps a ton. You can buy these herbal pillow thingys that you heat up in the microwave and then apply to the area that hurts. I don't know what I'd do without them. Hot baths (sorry, I can't do just warm) help too.

I had a lot of back problems while I was pregant, and for the last trimester, my baby pinched a nerve in my back running down my leg. I actually went to physical therapy for it! The things I found that helped the most were materinty belt/bands because they helped support the weight better, releiving the pressure on my back. I also stretched, which helped my muscles. But I wasn't completely relieved of it until I had him. :)

I had a lot of pain when I was pregnant and a friend suggested bouncing and stretchig on a work out ball.  It actually helped quite a bit... not always, but sometimes...

Ah, can I just plug the support belt one more time?  It makes long shifts in the ER bearable!  I do have to take it off and take breaks because Lemon hates being pushed up higher.  She loves laying down at the bottom of the pelvis, and the belt squishes her so she sometimes fights it...

But oh my gosh, I don't feel like I'm falling apart when I'm wearing it, and it helped with sciatic pain!

I third (fourth?) the belt!!  Also, lumbar support!  Bring a small pillow to place on your lower back when you sit.  That way you can sit up with good posture without getting tired.  I also have a foot stool under my desk, so I sit with my feet elevated 6".  That helps too.

All great ideas. I will be buying my support belt today for sure! It's 8:30am and my pain has started back up again! Ugh!

I had it really badly while trying to sleep last night.  I almost put the belt on, but instead just got up and worked for a little while :)

Just an update: I finally received my maternity belt. I just put it on. I like the support it gives but the touch against the skin isn't so pleasant. I might have to make sure I am wearing an undershirt for it to sit atop on. I guess we will see if the baby likes it too. She likes to sit low and while I am sitting the belly is a little higher than normal.

Oh and because I haven't found the right everyday nursing bra, I bought bra extenders for my current bra. So far so good.  I don't feel any unwanted pressure on my back anymore.

Thanks again for all your help ladies!
