@badabing88:  I would have not been able to stand there and say nothing. I would have made an ass of myself, but honestly?! When he walked away I would have blurted a nice line from Family Guy

“It’s like he’s f*cking five!!!”

I just cring every time my assistant talks about anything in past tense.  Apparently that’s not a thing they teach (properly) where she’s from.

“I had went shopping.”

“Since I had drove it last.”

@badabing88:  HAHA, some people. Yesterday I had to explain to a coworker what a “bucket list” was. He is a mid 30’s software developer with a masters in computer science. I mean seriously?!

A younger colleague on the death of Margaret Thatcher said something similar… Ok fine she wasnt alive during Thatchers ‘reign’ but Thatcher’s been a pretty big part of British recent history, there’s no way this individual could have gone her 20-odd years of life without hearing this woman’s name?!?

Ignorance these days is unfortunately more and more acceptable I think. I make a point of learning at least the basics if there’s something topical that I don’t know about.

A coworker of mine had never heard the phrase “while the cats away, the mice will play”. She DID NOT understand what it meant (our boss was away and another lady said this). Even if you’ve never heard the phrase before, it’s pretty self explanatory, no???

Also, this isn’t stupid but it just happened and I had a chuckle – a coworker logged onto his youtube to show me some Excel tutorial videos he was watching… and ALL of his recently watched videos were Golden Girls epis. Haha awesome.

@badabing88:  I do that all the time.  Everything defaults to beehive if you’re not under a specific topic.  I think I’m in the lounge, but I’m just in NWR.

As for your coworker, maybe it was just an issue of not recognizing the name right off the bat.  Sometimes it happens to me, but if you gave a few key words I would quickly make the connection.

My favorite is still, “they misunderestimated me.”

@badabing88:  I wouldn’t even step in at that point. Just stand there amused and watch it crash and burn as these two try to communicate with each other.

@badabing88:  You win.  Grownups never heard of Nelson Mandela… People should be forced to listen to NPR/CBC Radio at least 3 times/week.  Yeesh.
