OK you are going to spend so much money for the photographer and for the dress and they ALWAYS do the dress shot now

REMEMBER TO BUY A DECENT HANGER

wood, satin, something fun and funky but a cheap hanger looks awful in pictures

    Just a reminder lol

lol, I have purchased wooden hangers for my girls and myself. I am still trying to figure out if I want to fancy them up or not. I am thinking of painting the girls hangers the same color as their dresses and mine the same color as my dress.

I def had a regular clear, plastic hanger, fo sho. You dont even notice it in my pics, IMO. Buying a special one was one of those things that I felt was an unnecessary expense.

I had the same lovely hanger as @zippylef but you also didn't really notice it in my pictures because of the sunlight coming through the window where I hung my dress, much like her photo.

I think it's a pretty trivial expense. Yeah, it's cutesy for dress pictures, but it's not a must-have, imo.

I think this is a cute idea and it doesn't have to be expensive!!!  If you go to a store like T.J. maxx sometimes you can find the cutest hangers!! They come in packs and are usually a good deal.  It's just something fun to add to the dress pictures : ]

ok but if you are willing to spend $$$ on the dress and spend $$$ on the photographer I think a $5 investment in a decent hanger from Tuesday Morning or HomeGoods is a nice finishing touch but then again I am a detail Ho!!! LOL

@Future_mrs_seeds: I have been looking at those personalized hangers all week :) I think they would be such a cute gift for my bm's! I know it is just a hanger, as some of the other girls are saying... but they are really really CUTE hangers!

Oh, and I got my wooden hangers from Wal-Mart.

Reminder - buy a pretty hanger for your dress : wedding 01Haha, I got ready at my aunt's place.  I realized my hanger sucks so I rooted through her closet and found some clothes that were on a nice wooden hanger and switched it out.  I put it back when we were done of course.

I bought some stunning cast iron ones at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $1.25.  I bought everyone they had.  I thought they would make great bridal shower gifts, and would be great for the BM dresses also.

I don't want one of those "dress hanging in the window" photos, so unless my dress COMES with an ornate hanger, I probably won't bother.  I guess we'll see.

They look beautiful and at $20 totally affordable. However, I don't know that I'm going to get one. I wish someone on here had my name so I could borrow theirs :)

Here are mine, I stole the idea from a Style Me Pretty wedding.  I haven't done one for me yet but I've done a few for my bridesmaids, I am making a couple changes like moving the hair flower to the middle of the hanger and I bought pearl earrings and will put them where they did on the SMP one.  Mine will only have my new last name, the tulle bow and the wedding date.

My DIY (don't mind the messy writing, I did it quickly):

My dress came packaged from Kleinfeld with a cardboard "frame" (or whatever you want to call it) inserted into the bodice to keep the shape in transit so I did not want to mess with it. Also a fancy hanger with my name on it was not on my radar screen at that point. Bigger fish to fry in terms of details, IMO. The pics were fine without it.

The dress shot in my opinion is so overdone. 50 years from now I'd rather have more photos of friends and family than the details like my shoes or dress.

This is one of those details that just isn't worth the money to me. It seems to be only for the picture and its not like it is a picture to frame or anything. I love all the ones posted on here though, if someone made or bought me one I would be happy =).

I am definitely getting a personalized wire hanger off of Etsy... It's a silly $30 to spend, I will agree, but I am way into the details. Plus, if we have a son eventually, I am going to pass it along to his future FI... If not, I am sure a daughter would think it was cool, I know I would have when I was little.

I voted "other" because I forgot. I was SO sad. I even had a tutorial for a cute one bookmarked on my internet and totally spaced it. It's not like the crappy one really shows up in the pictures but I was really hoping for a cute picture of it, you know? :/

I think I'll probably get something like the 10 pack of satin ones from Wal*Mart because it does look more finished to me in the picture, and I do like those pictures. Also, that's not really expensive, and it's a hanger. I am always mysteriously short on hangers anyway, so it's not like it won't get put to good use after the wedding!

My photographer loves to shoot details of her weddings. Then in the wedding album you would be surprised how she puts them all together. Don't worry, the detail pictures won't be wasted instead of having pictures of actual people. She takes a TON of photos that will all belong to me and she stays all day so she won't miss a thing.

That being said, I really want to buy a personalized wire hanger. I just saw them on another post and fell in love. Eh, what's $20 when I'm not going over the top in the first place. I can't wait! And I really want to get them for my bridesmaids as well... but I have 7 so I'm not sure it's THAT cost efficient to get them one as well.

@Prewitt:  I bought stencils and just used craft paint.  I got the stencils from Michaels and they were slippery, and the wood was kinda slippery too so that made it a little difficult.  Of course after I saw stencils at Joann Fabrics that would have worked better (so I'd go there if you have Joann's in your state).  The black was easier than the grey, I had to do more coats of the grey.

So yeah took a little time but I think it will make for a really cute photo op and they were cheap to make!  I can't wait for all the detail pictures, so these are perfect for that.

Let me know if you have any other questions if you try them!

@Gizmo19: Thanks for the reply. I'm in England but we've got stores called Hobbycraft, that I think will sell that sort of stuff. They do look really good. I'm going to put this thread into my favourites incase I do decide to go for it and need to ask you if I get stuck. Thanks again ;)

I am going to DOLLAR TREE getting two packages of four wooden hangers, spraying them white and we are each going to decorate them the night before the wedding at my last "girls" sleepover.  Nothing fancy, I spent 12 on the decorations on the clearance isle at hobby lobby and it is more than enough to do all my hangers.
