Hey fellow home-owning bees!
Hubby and I just bought our first home together last Spring and we are currently doing renovations. This was a tough decision since we we’re also in the process of planning/getting married and we feared we may have spread ourselves a little thin! I thought it might be fun to start a thread detailing the before, after, timelines and details of our home renovations!
When did you purchase your house/apartment/condo? Give us a description!
When did you take pocession of your house/apartment/condo?
When did the work start on your house/apartment/condo?
What is the scope of the renovations your are doing?
When do you expect the work will be done?
Post a before – during –after photo if you have!!

I’ll start with mine:
When did you purchase your house/apartment/condo? Give us a description! We bought our house in May 2012 after being on the house-hunt for nearly 1 year! It’s a beautiful, large detached home with 4+2 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. The home was built in the 80’s so the design is modern and architectural – lending itself well to our personal style. It’s completely open concept on the ground floor, which we love. Furthermore, it is located in the metropolitan area, a mere 15 minutes from downtown!
When did you take pocession of your house/apartment/condo? We only took pocession at the beginning of October 2012.
When did the work start on your house/apartment/condo? The work started the 2nd week of October 2012, though it was mostly demolition. Yesterday was the real first day of “reconstruction”.
What is the scope of the renovations your are doing? Well, despite the gorgeous modern shell of our home, many of the things inside hadnt been changed since the 80’s. What started as a little bit of work, the bare minimum as we saw it (replace carpets with wood floors, re-do the master ensuite) turned into a huge project!! So far, we are re-doing the floors, master bathroom (including both windows), walk-in closets, railing on the staircase, re-surfacing the fireplace, re-doing the powder room, changing all the potlights and re-doing the vestibule. I know, a tall order.
When do you expect the work will be done? Our contractor has suggested that he will be done by mid-December but I honnestly don’t see how that is possible! The delays on some of our materials and custom designs (the woodwork for instance) are over 5-6 weeks! All I can do now, is wait!
Pictures to come!
