Repeated dreams of miscarriage

I’m not pregnant, but I know that whenever I am worried about something (even subconsciously) I have nightmares about it.

I still remember when I was 16 and about to get my license. I had been a good driver when practicing and honestly wasn’t worried about it (or didn’t think I was) but every night for a few weeks I had 2 recurring dreams. One was that I was in a car and lost control – I was going like 80mph and the brakes went out and I was just steering to avoid everything I could. It was terrifying and always the same.

In my second dream I would wake up in the backseat of a car that was moving, but there was no one driving – it was just going on its own (maybe downhill? who knows), but we were going around a mountain with no guard rails. I struggled to get to the front to get control, but never could.

It was really bizarre because other than what was happening in these dreams I never felt like I had any anxiety about driving at all. Once I started actually driving on my own the dreams completely stopped. I’m sure thats what is happening to you, just like the girls that have nightmares about their weddings.

@adoc86:  Is exactly right. I would dream about miscarriages if I was googling about them before going to bed. It isn’t a sign you will have one, just your fear that you will. Once I stopped researching them and focused on the good things (like morning sickness, which proved things were progressing well), I stopped having them.

I have these dreams a lot too.  I had a miscarriage my first pregnancy so that certainly didn’t help ease my fears.  I had the dream before the first miscarriage happened so when I got pregnant again and had a similar dream I figured it was a bad sign.  However, so far everything seems to be going great and I am now 21 weeks.  My dreams did get less frequent after the first trimester but I’m sorry to say they haven’t gone away entirely.  PPs are right though, if you are worried about something it will usually show itself in your dreams.  Even though I thought I was feeling much more positive this time around some nights I would have a bad dream which reminded me perhaps I wasn’t as relaxed as I thought.  My best advice is to focus on the good things and try not to think so much about what could happen.  Worrying about things doesn’t prevent them from happening, so we might as well be positive all the time!

@Mrslovebug:  I’m not having the miscarriage dream, but I am having dreams where everyone is dictating how I am supposed to handle my baby and keeping me from my own baby becuase it is sleeping or going with them somewhere.

I think this is one of my fears in real life that people are going to tell me how to handle my baby, and I am scared about that because while I want to do it myself I really have no idea what I am doing.

@Mrslovebug:  How far along are you? I had this dream once & it was such an awful feeling! I was almost 6w when it happened. Shortly after that I had a dream that I delivered my baby on someones toilet & that she came out fine (I don’t know what I’m having yet but my baby is always a girl in my dreams). Once I had my first OB apt and saw the babe on the u/s & heard its heartbeat the m/c dreams stopped. I’m 13w3d now am now dreaming about chocolate chip cookies most nights.

I’ve had this dream several times before, too… Hopefully they stay just as that– a dream.
