My parents are throwing me and my FI an engagement party (that is for out friends only.. we already had a family one). We are doing exactly what most people would be doing on a sunday afternoon at 1pm, having my parents beautiful pool available with rafts, food catered, a bartender – and the bar serves the inside and the outside, music, TV, theres an inside pool table, etc. Now I am thinking… what else can we do? What are good decoaration besides the corny party city paper/plastic pieces or banners? The only ideas I have are:
1.) I’m getting 2 engagement pic enlarged to be the perfect sizes for a table centerpiece, comes with a stand and all.. one for people to sign as a guest book type thing, the other as a decoration.
2.) Since we are having a bartender i am making a “me and my fiance’s Speciality Drinks”- and changing the names of some drinks.. since my FI is Greek- a Long Island Ice tea will be “Greek Island Ice Tea”, mandras will be “blushing Bride”, a tequila sunrise will be “Santorni Sunset”… etc. we still have to think of more names with appropiate drink.. but I’ll type out what is in each drink, print it out and put it in a big pic. frame on the bra both inside and outside.
3.) For fun…Print out “the list of things NOT to say to the bride and groom at their wedding” and put a few on the tables…for people to read as the read… just for giggles
But please help me with ideas! Games? Fun suggestions? What if it rains? Any backup plans u can think of? I have over 2 weeks (its the 15th) so PLEASEEEEE…any suggestions will be helpful!
Also, people keep asking me what they should get me as a gift, and we are not registered anywhere, we are only asking for money for the wedding as its our family’s culture and tradition to do so, plus we have everything you could need but are saving for a house! I didn’t know for an engagement party people were suppose to bring gifts, but everyone I have asked has said yes. We did not plan for this, and do not need anything, but dont want them to give us money now, and then again at the wedding. Helpful suggestions/gift ideas to tell them?

I recently went to an engagement party where the MOH made the FB and FH sit back to back on chairs. They each had a shoe in their hand the FB had the Husbands shoe , the FH had the FB’s shoe.
Game ItemsBride & Groomb) 2 chairs c) brides shoe d) husbands shoe
Objective: People ask the couple questions and the FB or FH raise the shoe if it applies to their partner
Example: Who was the one that gave the first kiss? (ONe or two shoes will go up) Who was the first one to say I love You? Who was the first one to fart? (this is a funny one)
you can make them as conservative or as humoristic as you like depending on the crowd.

haha thats great!! And really, only me and my FI know the true answers!! its a group of mostly all my BP, and friends…. some a young, fun, people I’ve known for years type crowd!! So nothing can be embarressing really!!
Keep the ideas coming- even decor’- party stores had NOTHING for engagement parties just bridal showers, bachelorette party, and actually wedding things!! Any clever suggestions?
Games are great though, incase of rain or people get tired/hot of being outside!

I don’t know about your friends, but I always tend to enjoy myself more at these things if they’re less structured. It sounds like you’ve got a bar and a pool, really, what more do you need? 🙂
Will everyone know each other? You could do a mixer at the beginning to do names or something, or consider name tags.

@ddw: I would say about 90% of the people there already know each other. That is not a big deal. We don’t want it structured either, we want it to be relaxing and people having a fun time. The whole music, sun, pool, drinks, food, and family/friends is totally how me and my FI are, HOWEVER, this is Florida… it is the rainy/hurricane season (Trooical storm is heading this way). So i want to have some suggestions as a back up, if (( KNOCK ON WOOD )) it does rain, so people are occupied, is not a “structured” thing either. I feel if I dont have backup things to do, I will jinx it all, and it will be thunderstorms all day.. silly I know…but better safe than sorry!!
Also.. any cute/clever cocktail drink names..so far we have…
Tequila Sunrise: Santorini Sunset (FI is Greek and Santorini is a greek island)
Mandras- “blushing bride”
Long Island Ice Tea- “Opa!” lol
Bacardi Lemonade (with a few modification I prefer) – “Samantha Special Lemonade”
….we are thinking of more…
Any fun suggestions for more drink with name ideas would be helpful, entertainment/game ideas also (IF there is rain… hoping there is not!)..even cute decoration ideas!

Our cake is something I think is a cute idea (friend makes amazing cakes taste-wise plus makes anything u can think of with fondant, sculpting chocolate…etc.). Since the cake is only for 50 people, shes doing it a fun hexagon shape like this cake….
Not the big or wide, nor that color, or design. It will have the ‘You’re Engaged!!’ banner in front tho. Color: she will mix white and purple fondant together making a marble like design.. don’t have a picture of it, and nothing on the sides as it will be about half that width…different sizes of hearts in solid white, and solid purples will be used instead of flowers on the top with less swirls because……..the MAIN decoration on the top is going be:
That is completely edible..looks so real right? Fondant + modeling chocolate..an example of one she has done before, but box will match 1 FI proposed with- black with silver latch and interior (where the ring goes) is white. And the ring is going to be as close of an exact replica of my engagement ring as possible…
This was on top of 3 tier cake, so much smaller surface area than our 1 layer, hexagon cake, so…ours will be bigger than that so you can really see the ring, and to make a statement &…there wont be any of that pink piping surrounding it.. instead the heart theme will continue, and the box will have hearts leaning against the box..like this cake has:
NOT that big of a box, thats huge, but u get the idea of the hearts leaning, etc.
It will also be yummy- white cake, with a mix of chocolate and strawberry ganache & shes adding a LITTLE bit chocolate pieces to add the subtle crunch texture because it tastes exactly like chocolate covered strawberries and that gives it the texture of them too.
What better design for an engagement party cake, than to have what started it all? An engagement ring.

For decor… have you considered purchasing (or making if you a DIY girl) a colorful array of party poms/pomanders?? They’re available for in tons of colors, sizes and prices on the esty website…. check it out here:
This is a great (non-corny) way to decorate and change the look of the house/area for a party! Plus you can’t NOT like the fun colors. Go crazy!!

@SuperShopper: thanks girl! They look fun and interesting!!! Great suggestion. I only looked briefly because my computer crashed last night- just got a new one.. but can you hang those as well? Looked like u could do just about anything with them!
I also found this website: http://www.shindigz.com/party/Engagement-Tabletop-Standee.cfm and i ordered 2 tablesized (not life size) pics from our engagement session! This is what I mentioned earlier about having people sign one when they enter…and other at the main table or bar..where ever people will notice it more. No body had really seen are engagement pics yet!

bump this thread up as a tropical storm has passed with a lovely tail of clouds and thunderstorms! Forecast shows the scarey bolts of lightening and seems like it is going to be a full on DOWNPOUR for the engagment party this Sunday.
Please! Easy, fun, but different game/entertainment ideas for an engagement party?! All close friends, mostly all know each other, and over 75% are 26 or younger!! No conservatives, but nothing BEYOND/PASSING THE LINE of fun inappropiate (parents will be hosting and obviously there, frunt and center)
THANKS~ And cross fingers that the forecast is wrong…. like it always is!

I may be a little immature, but my BM’s and I decided that for the upcoming co-ed shower, we’re going to pit the guys vs. the girls in a competition. The games we’ll play are “Minute to Win It” games because both FI and I happen to currently be obsessed with that show. Our favorite game is “paper dragon” which involves party streamers! (website: http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/) Before the “competition” starts, all will agree upon a bet (If the boys win, then the girls have to
I’m going to let them decide how risque or goofy they want this bet to be)
I think it’s a great way to entertain ourselves (and as the drinks start to flow, I”m sure the more entertaining it will be). Also some guests have never met each other, so it’s a great ice-breaker prior to the wedding.
Winner of each individual game will likely get some sort of prize (gift cards, etc).

@Okole Maluna: That is too funny! I read that while my FI and I are watching Minute to Win It. Great suggestion, and meant to be.
Need so other no so intense games for the few that are a little older and will either take it just as serious as us, or just watch, I am not sure…should be interesting just to see there reaction.
