Okay Bees…so here’s my ‘issue’ ;)…
I found a shop on Etsy today that repurposes books into purses and one of the types of books I really loved – Nancy Drew!
purse from Retrograndma – Etsy
I was a big Nancy Drew fan as a kid and still have a ton of the hardback books. Thus, after looking over this Seller’s shop, went to her Blog where she said she’s made purses for a bride to gift to her bridesmaids! I thought that was a great idea! Especially since I’ve been looking all over Etsy lately for ideas.
I have 3 BMs…
1 is my MOH – my sister and 2nd one is my cousin. They both do read, but don’t really think they were necessarily fans of the series as kids…but still…
3rd BM is a friend. Have only known her more closely as of this last year or so, so had to ask her more q’s…and found out while she’s not an everyday purse user, she likes them for special occasions. And knowing this type of purse is more ‘novelty’, she could still use it on her occasions. 🙂
Also asked her if she was a Nancy Drew fan. Found out..yes. Her older sis had just about all of them, so she read them too.
For all of them, regardless of if they are ‘super fans’ or not…I think if I find covers that have colors/items on them that look more of their personality and have the materials/colors of handles, etc. be more colors they’d choose….then still think they’d appreciate it. 🙂
Also…think they all would appreciate/remember the unique gift, hopefully, 😉 as I’m giving the gift/the book series is one of my favs. of my childhood and I would have done my best to create the overall purse to show more of their likings.
Not that I’m looking for anyone to shoot my idea down..haha..but…
Any thoughts on that idea? Thanks!

My friend carried one on her wedding day. I think they’re adorable.

@brwneyedgrl: Aww..nice! 🙂 Thanks for the comment.

I think it’s a great idea because it’s totally different.

Yeah, I’m thinking as more of a gift they can have for after the wedding…not to really use on the wedding day – as it doesn’t go w. my theme or anything. haha. 🙂

IMHO – even though I always have a purse on my arm and I loved the Nancy Drew series as a kid (I had just about all of them, including some old ones that were my grandma’s and my mom’s), this isn’t a gift I would really enjoy receiving. Despite always using purses and loving Nancy Drew, the purse itself just isn’t my style and it’s something I would never carry.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t judge the usefullness of this gift on someone’s enjoyment of reading (either Nancy Drew or not) or their enjoyment of purses. You really need to consider whether this purse is a style that all of your BMs would enjoy. If it is, great – I’m sure they’ll love it. But you really need to consider if it is a style that they like if you want them to be able to use it.

@FutureKMM: interesting point. Then maybe I’ll poke around and ask them if they like the idea of ‘unique’ purses like the cigar purses…or something like that… (so I don’t have to give my entire idea away..haha).

I voted NO – I think it’s cute and I TOTALLY loved Nancy Drew when I was young. But I just don’t see where I’d use it. If your BM are the type to carry unique things then definitely go for it but they’re not into the quirky then it’ll be a waste of your money to get them something they won’t use.

It’s cute and I would totally use it. The only thing is it is tiny so you can’t hold much of anything in it, which defeats the purpose of a purse. My sister (who is my MOH) would find it cute since she’s a bookworm and, like me, also loved Nancy Drew as a kid. But she would not be able to actually use it as it is too small for her too and the stuff she needs to carry.

Again, thanks for your input ladies! Appreciate it! 🙂
Think I’ve decided to not go forward w. this idea. Though I do think it’s cute.
Aww…the decisions and ideas I go through, especially as a bride to be…oi! haha.
