I think that depending on the style of the vase, you could totally repurpose them. If there is a way to repurpose mine, that is what I am going to do.
They are just simple straight thin cylinders from the dollar store. (Can you tell I really don't want to keep hemorrhaging money?)
I am trying to think of ways to repurpose mine as well. I was thinking of hanging them from the ceiling in the reception space?
lol, do you already have one?
You could try it out to see how you like it, and then post a picture for us, so we can let you know what we think. I think if you are going to have another color on the table they should be fine. You could always get some matching satin material; you probably would need much, to put in the bottom of the vase, and if you have the nonflame candles, you could put those on top (kind of nestled in) of the fabric.
I don't have any pomanders yet because my florist is making them fresh for me. So I don't really have anything to play with. :(
Ok I found some photos similar to what I want to do. I think it'll look ok.

I think those look fine. Cute and different, really. Why not?

Do you think it would look weird of off to place pomanders that were on the pews at our church during the ceremony at the reception? I would like to place them on short (3") and taller (7") clear glass vases sprinkled throughout the reception site. I was thinking maybe to stuff the ribbon into the vase, or just cutting it off if it looked weird? Most of the pictures I've seen of tall pomander like centerpieces have something in the vase, like crystals, fruit, or more flowers. But I don't really want to spend more money. Will it look odd to have the vases empty?
