this is what we are planning on doing, FI's cousin did this also and they had no issues with it, plus it saves money and paper :)
I think it's a great idea considering technology plays a huge part in our lives today. There really should be no problems.

So, I sent out my invites without *GASP* a prestamped envelope for the RSVP. I set up an e-mail address to RSVP to, and included a phone number. Our deadline just passed, and we're only missing 19 of 92 RSVPs.
:)
So far, I haven't had any negative responses to it. Even my grandparent's 80-something neighbors and FI's similar-aged relatives responded via e-mail! :D
Did anyone else do this?
