Yesterday was my birthday and after my friend and I went out for some fried ice cream to celebrate, we decided to take the long way home and tried a road we were never on before. Well the road went to paved to stone and up the mountains and soon we were in state game lands! Deep in the woods, we spied a kitty sitting by the side of the road, not moving. we stopped and the poor kitty was covered in blow flies (not a good sign). So we went and got some cat food, came back and set up a bowl with cat food and another with water. We came back home ad formulated a plan.
This morning we went back with a cat carrier, a live trap and cans of tuna. I seriously believed he would either be gone or dead – being in such sad shape. To my amazement, we were able to coax hi into the carrier and fortunately, our vet was able to see HIM right away.
The vet sedated him and first thing we did was test him for FIV and Feline Leukemia and luckily he was negative for both. But the poor dear was severely infested with fleas and THOUSANDS of maggot eggs (gross!). he is also very anemic. Since he was already knocked out, the vet quickly neutered him and he is at the vets being treated for fleas, worms, and recuperating from the surgery. I called for an update and the vet is cautiously optimistic. Keep your paws crossed, if this little guy makes it he will have a forever home with us!

Oh and he will never forget that you saved his life either. I have a cat – who when I found him had ticks, fleas, mites, mange, was burned with what looked like a hot pipe, abused (very afraid of men), and he had a severe upper respitory infection) – the vet said, “20% chance he will make it, but don’t count on it.” A few days later I got the call that he was able to be released to go home. He had a very expensive bill – *$500.00 * shudders* but he made it. He has to take prednisone about every three days for chronic asthma, but he is now 10 years old. When he found me – I am thinking he was around 3-4 months old. He ended up losing all of his fur from the mange – and I sponge bathed him for weeks – and he would sleep next to me in my bed under the covers and would not get out of the bed unless I did. That is when he ate and went to the bathroom, followed me everywhere for months. He is strictly an indoor only cat. He has 2 friends too He is a little angel. Here is Tyler the Survivor: The vet has since told me – he is definitely a Russian Blue and why anyone wouldn’t want him is beyond her comprehension, the breed is worth some $. I am so thankful he is with us. He is super loving.

Congratulations! I’m so happy that he seems relatively ok and didn’t test positive for either FIV or Feline Leukemia both of my last two rescues did and I eventually lost them both. With those two nasties and his sweet meats out of the way he should be able to conquer most of what could possibly ail him! I hope you get to take him home soon 😀

@trueblue14: poor little kitty!!! I rescued my adorable black kitten from the woods when she was a tiny and starving. Best decision ever. She’s such a good, sweet funny cat. 9 years later she’s still doing great! That’s so wonderful of you to save him!
