I had sent my out of town invitations out in July, of which one went to the White House Greetings office addressed to our President.
Now I know Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama will not be attending my wedding, but I thought it would be cool to get a certificate or note from the White House congratulating me that I can store in my scrapbook.
I have not received anything and it has been about 5 months. I can imagine that TONS of invites get sent there but wanted to hear from anyone who did send an invitation to the White House and if they got anything back. How long did it take? Was it after your wedding?
I sent my invitations out the first week of June and just got a response from the Obamas last week. :)
I've never heard of this. I won't be sending one, but I would be interested to hear what you ladies received as a response.
Not only am I sending one to the white house, but I will also be sending one to Disney World to get that cute greeting from Mickey and Miney Mouse.
I have never heard of this...LOL. I will definitely be passing the information on to my little sister when she starts sending out her wedding invites. Since both she and her fiance is in the military, maybe she will get more than the standard reply. That is so cool....although I think she would be more excited by Mickey and Minnie than the Prez =)
We sent one to the Obamas last week... Definitely hoping we get something back!
@MissACS, the address is
The Honorable Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama
The White House
Greetings Office Rm. 39
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, DC 20500
@Mrs. Louboutin, you receive a signed note of congratulations back--all of the presidents do this
Thanks HannahT!
What's Mickey Mouse send? Our printer had "extras" in their printing process, so beyond the extras we ordered, we're stacked with spare invitations. :)
Here's Mickeys address!
Mickey & Minnie Mouse
The Magic Kingdom
1675 N. Buena Vista Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
If you are catholic you can also invite the pope:
Pope Benedictus XVI
Prefettura della Casa Pontifica
00210 Citta del Vaticano, Italia
And for those who are British, why not invite the Queen? (If you are not British you wont get a response)
The Secretary to Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II
Buckingham Palace
London, England SW1A 1AA
I sent my invitation to the President about a month ago. I know I won't get it before my wedding. I heard there is a 6 month wait for a response. I'm excited to see what I get.
Mickey Mouse. My FH loves disney! I do but not as much as him. That's awesome. Thanks!
We received our letter of congrats back a few weeks ago!! I mailed my invites the end of April for our June wedding.
I loved that the address was handwritten!
Aww... That is so cute! I can't wait to get mine!
Hi Folks,
I'm British do you think the Obamas and Mickey Mouse would reply to me?
I read that it should be sent after the event but it doesn't seem to be a big deal otherwise since other bees have received a reply when the invitation was sent before the event.
I sent mine out before the Obamas were in office...so my letter from the White House is signed by the Bush's.
That's an interesting idea sending it to the big cheese - but why? Not being snarky, just curious! And I hate to be a pessimist, but do you guys really think that they have the time to look at your invites and personally sign the paper you get back? That stuff is probably forwarded to a white house worker miles away from the Obamas in a small dark office somewhere!
It's responded to by the office of protocol and the congrats is signed in real ink by an auto-pen. For us, politics was an important part of the year we were engaged and we will frame it along with our Obama posters and other memorobilia.
I also imagine that when I'm talking to our theoretical future grandkids, that I'd love to pull that out and show it to them as evidence of the historical era that we were a part of!
I'm stoked to add it to all of my wedding memorabilia! To me it's another way of celebrating when you chose to get married!
@ProudPeacockBride, I definitely don't have any illusions about the pres reviewing my invitation.
It's just a fun memento for our scrapbook.
@Mrs DG - we are date twins :)
We sent ours to the White House the first week of May and also received our response a couple of weeks ago. My dad saw it in the mail and thought that somehow the White House "just knew" that we were married - I had to explain that we sent an invitation
Is Canada British enough for the Queen to reply??? If not, I'm also Chinese, born in Hong Kong under British rule... I might even qualify for a British Overseas passport... Am I British enough?
Probably not. Oh well. I hope Micky Mouse replies :D
we just got our note from the white house today! how exciting, it makes for a nice momento! we sent our invitation at the end of july, so just over 3 months for a response. the note was not personalized, but someone did address the envelope by hand, so that was a nice touch.
We sent invitations back in March and just received our response card from the Obamas a couple of weeks ago. I was really excited. :)
Yeah!! I'm glad to know that the delay is normal :) We sent ours to the White House at the end of August, and I was thinking that we weren't going to recieve anything, yeah I can't wait!
Have any Canadians sent an invite to the Prime Minister?
We sent ours out in February, and never got anything :( Oh well...I'm happy for those of you who did get something! That's so neat!
here's the address to the Candian prime minister for any Canadians out there interested in trying...let us know if you get a response!
Right Hon. Stephen Harper
Office of the Prime Minister
80 Wellington St
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2
what a cool idea! I had never thought of doing this but will certainly be adding the Obamas to our guest list!
This is so freaking cool. I am incredibly excited about doing this now, thanks!
We just got our response from Disneyland Communications! And just for fun, I will add our presidents' response, too!
We mailed ours end of May for our Sept wedding and got our response in November. My husband's family are all Republicans so I love displaying our response from the Obamas!
Is there anything like this in Canada? I wonder if I could send one to Mickey and Minnie??
@starcharades- Thank you so much for posting these addresses! I had no idea where to get them from and I really wanted to do this after I saw it on another thread.
