@Caitlyn12: My understanding is that wholesalers don't advertise to the public or even have shop fronts (like in my case) so we found ours simply by being referred by a friend. If you're in Australia, they are called diamond emporium... I don't know if blue Nile is classified as a wholesaler but their prices are soooo much cheaper than retailers too because they are only online (but still very reputable) they are available in the US too
@Gemma_Leigh: We didn't have an experience with a wholesaler BUT we bought preowned (not even preworn because the guy never even proposed), we paid $500 more than a jeweler offered and got the ring. My bf saved $13,000 from the price the original owner paid just 2 months prior.
@Gemma_Leigh: I think that is standard mark up. The wholesaler we bought our ring from told us that jewelers usually mark rings up 300% (which is what you experienced). Jewelers actually laughed at my fiance's budget, and yet he got a custom made ring from the wholesaler for less than his original budget, and with a nicer quality stone.

So my fiancé and I bought my ring on the weekend, we went to a very reputable wholesaler and got it custom made. Today I went to a retailer and got a quote (just because I was curious!) for the exact same ring as mine, same specs and same quality, the retailer was over THREE times the price! I knew they'd be more expensive but not THAT more! Has anyone had a similar experience?
