you should do what you want to do.  if you would rather elope, do it.

KapOct18:  I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY, but we’re 3 months away so it’s too late now.

Elope, cruise, exactly like you said.  We “joked” about that when we got engaged, but it’s not so funny now.  We both wish we had!!

We eloped! We lost about $800 in deposits but it was so worth it. Best day if my life, and it cost us about $300!!

Yeah I seriously wish we would have eloped. See if there’s any way you can get deposits back, but if there isn’t, you’re still not losing as much money as you would with a wedding. Good luck!

KapOct18:  i doubt your contract says you would owe them a full amount–you pay the photographer for a service that happens on your wedding day, so you wouldn’t owe them the whole amount. And if your in-laws and parents are mad about them losing money, offer to pay them back.

You are over a year out, so I don’t think the vendors will be too upset.

KapOct18:  $900 is a drop in the bucket compared to $15K, I say call it off and pay them back. If you were saving up for a wedding, I’m sure you’ve got $900 that you have saved. Pay everyone back for their losses, they may not even accept it. Then go on a cruise!

Just pay them back the 900 and go elope.

KapOct18:  Like PPs have said, $900 is a lot less than $15k + a stressful, now-what-you-both-wanted-wedding.

Pull out, pay back parents and go get married!

Hyperventilate:  This.

$900 is a small price to pay considering you would be saving several thousand (and your sanity) by eloping. Make the change now while you’re not in too deep.

I agree with the other bees. I think if you can’t see yourself being happy with this wedding, then you shouldn’t spend 15k and just elope. dont do anything you’ll regret!
