I am the Admin for my rescue’s Facebook site and I also check the rescue’s email.
Six days ago someone emails to say they are missing their dog – an older German Shepherd with hip dysplasia. They don’t think he went far. Photos are all over Facebook.
Then today I get an email from someone who says they found a skinny dog with a hurt leg 30 miles away. It had been hanging out in a very rural area near the mountains. The lady eventually caught him and now he is at her home. Then she emailed us. The photos are the same!
A little girl said she saw a man in a big white pick up truck take the dog out of the truck, tell him to sit and stay, and then drove off. I hope this family knows of someone with a big white truck! Otherwise how would this old dog with hip issues get 30 miles away?
The owner doesn’t know yet – I’ve called, emailed, Facebooked her – so far no word. I cannot wait to hear how happy she will be to find her dog!

I’m so glad you found him! I’d talk to the family though, and make sure they all want the dog returned. I ended up with one of my cats because the owner’s baby daddy decided to throw the poor girl outside in the rain and cold and tell the owner she ran off. The white pickup part sounds like it might have been a family member that dumped him.

That’s a scary story but I’m glad it has a happy ending!

@MariContrary: I think the woman wants him back. She’s been actively posting all over the internet asking if anyone has seen him, posting her #, emailng us a rescue, asking for ideas. I gave her plenty of suggestions and she seemed very grateful.
I am very curious as to who the white truck is though! Maybe it was the spouse, or another relative or a neighbor. I am dying for her to contact me! I hope she is not on spring break with her kids though.

Fantastic! Let us know if you hear back from the family! I love me a good sob pic and nothing is better than dogs being reunited with their families. Homeward Bound gets me every time!

Wow, what an incredible story!! (Minus the di** in the white pick-up!)
A former roommate of mine lost my amazing, beautiful, intelligent dog, Tux, a couple years ago when I was out of town (and then didn’t even have the decency to tell me until the day AFTER I returned… I got home late the night before and figured Tux was just sleeping in my roommate’s room)!
Anywho, as soon as I found out, I was out canvassing the neighborhood (which, mind you, wasn’t the safest one around), putting up posters, consulting facebook, calling shelters… nothing. Yes, he was tagged, but no, he never turned up. I can only hope he’s with a loving family… even if they are thieves :-/
Again, this is an incredible story. I can’t wait to hear how incredibly ecstatic the owner is when they are reunited!! You’re a bit of a hero! 🙂

So they finally got in touch with each other last night. The entire family came over right away to pick up “Stumpie” (LOL). Stumpie was extremly excited to see his people! The family had just lost their grandmother on Monday, so losing the dog just 3 day was a lot to deal with. But they are so happy to have him back now. They did not know anyone with a white pick up truck, so they are going to keep an eye on him at all times.

Yayyy! Happy day for Stumpie!
