@dayl20:  Post a pic of the chair….

I would assume (like you, I’ve recovered small projects….no sewing needed, only a staple gun) the difficulty of the project would all depend upon whether sewing is required and/or what type of fabric you’d use.

That chair would definitely be beyond my comfort level.  I would guess you could buy your own supplies to upholster it yourself– probably $50-$100 or you could check out upholstery services either through Craig’s List or Angie’s List.

Depends on your budget and skills, really.  It looks like a really nice chair….good luck!

I would pay someone. It will probably cost around $300-ish plus the cost of fabric, i’d guess. More if you live someplace more expensive (NYC, San Fran etc). Less in a really cheap place like WV.

My mom did her couches/chairs years ago.  They still remark how her job has lasted over 2x what the original upholstery did!  According to her, the time consuming part was taking the fabric carefully off the first chair so she could use it as a template to make the pattern for the new one.  Dad ripped his fabric off the second chair quickly w/o needing to be careful.

You’re a rave lady going DIY with this. I’d love to see pics when it’s done.
