Hi bees, we are hosting a semi casual reception in a big lodge in the woods. Not jeans casual, but nothing too fancy. We are cooking the food ourselves the day before, and FH and I are BBQ fans! I’ve listed our menu, and I’m looking for some insight before we finalize details this week!
BBQ chicken – not with BBQ sauce, just cooked on an open flame
Pulled pork sliders
Macaroni and cheese
Seasoned roasted potatoes
Seasoned green beans
Salad with ranch, Italian and balsamic vinaigrette
corn bread muffins
-bar will have a variety of beer and wine
-iced tea and lemonade, iced water (maye some with fruit infusion?), hot coffee
cocktail hour with veggie and hummus trays, cheese and crackers
no cake, but an assorted pie bar
favors are chocolate covered pretzels
late night snack of popcorn bar – fresh air pop with 10 different seasoning shakers

My only concerns run along the lines of 1) How many guests are you serving? 2) Are YOU and your FI actually doing all the cooking the day before, or are you receiving help with this?
Knowing that you’re trying to accomplish a semi-casual reception, I think the food and drink items will be perfect!

Sounds awesome! YUM. I would be a little worried about undertaking all of this the day before my wedding though… Since your reception is at a country lodge, I’m guessing you’ll have to do a lot of the other stuff as well, like setting up tables / chairs / linens / decor / lighting / etc? That’s how ours was, and it was pretty crazy. Adding the food on top of that sounds like a handful…

@krex: Yum, I want to eat it all!

I think it sounds very tasty, but I too would be concerned about what seems like a quite large undertaking.

@krex: Yumm! You had me at pulled pork sliders and mac & cheese.

The food options sound great, but I am afraid that you’re going to live to regret wanting to cook it all before. You’re going to be so busy anyway….why not have a parent or cousin or someone take care of this for you?
