How rude of me to just post away and not even introduce myself! I got such a warm welcome here, and all of a sudden I thought, “I didn’t tell these ladies anything about myself!” Shameful!
So anyway, here’s a brief introduction of myself and my relationship and all that jazz.
My name is Katie, I’m currently 25 years old and live in New Jersey. I’m a registered nurse and work at a hospital near my hometown. I work with adult oncology (cancer) patients. It’s been a) the most rewarding job I’ve ever had, and b) the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do. I won’t get into all the dirty details of the job and the stress and my patients, there’s just too much of it. But most days I’m happy with my job and my career.
My boyfriend’s name is Craig, he’s also from NJ. He’ll be turning 30 on August 2nd. I have to plan his party and I keep forgetting. *sigh* There aren’t enough hours in the day!
Craig works at a local hardware store, where he’s been employed for the last 12 years. He works with good people and gets good benefits, but he’s not overly happy there. He doesn’t have any real career goals at the moment, but ya never know.
Craig LOVES big trucks (hence my username and avatar lol), he has a lifted Dodge pickup with stacks and all sorts of big tough man things. We’re total opposites. He’s quiet, I’m loud, he’s shy, I’m the funny girl, life of the party. He likes motorcycles and big trucks and three-wheelers, I tend to play it more safe.
Craig and I met two or three times in 2008 before we “officially” started dating. He and I went on a doube date with my best friend from high school, Charleen, and her then-fiance, Art. We went to an Irish restuarant. I ordered penne vodka. I don’t remember what Craig ordered. I wasn’t paying much attention to him, honestly. I was catching up with Charleen, who I hadn’t seen recently since I’d been away at college.
I thought Craig was boring, lol. I thought he sold bicycles for a living (shows how much I was paying attention to him!). We parted ways that night and I thought of him every once in awhile, but never really followed up, though Charleen said he asked about me quite a bit.
The next time we saw each other was at Char and Art’s joint bachelor/bachelorette party. Craig is shy and I am outgoing, so going to a Western themed bar with bullriding was an interesting experience for us both, haha. He did not get into the mechanical bullriding or the dancing on bars. That’s not his scene. I on the other hand…
Again, for most of the night, I was hovering around Charleen. We’ve been best friends since 8th grade, I was a bridesmaid of hers and intended on getting her and Art plastered. Mission accomplished! But, again, Craig took the backburner.
The next time I saw him was the day of Charleen and Arthur’s wedding, July 2008. We sat next to each other during the reception. I got pretty drunk. We danced once or twice. We went for a walk around a lake to sober up. I’d taken off my heels and he asked if I wanted him to carry me so I wouldn’t hurt my feet. Haha, they say chivalry is dead!
We exchanged numbers that night, and I was shocked to hear from him the next day! He said he couldn’t take his eyes off of me at the wedding, I looked beautiful. BLUSH!
Anyway…. To wrap up a story that’s gone on for too long already, after a tumultuous beginning (he “wasn’t ready” to date… was carrying baggage from a relationship that had ended 4 years prior to us meeting), and a lot of me trying to “fix” him (I’m a nurse, I can’t help it!), we finally started dating on July 20, 2008.
And here we are today. We’ve had our fair share of disagreements, we’ve had beautiful, loving moments. We’ve made memories and gone on vacations, we’ve been through a lot.
However, our families STILL have not met. Don’t you think that’s weird? It’s a scheduling issue, mostly. They’ll get along, though.
So here we are, 3 years into our relationship, and we’re looking to “seal the deal”, as it were. The engagement ring shopping has begun, and I think we’re gonna be in for a WILD ride once this process kicks off haha.
So if you made it through this long winded entry (I swore I’d keep it short! whooops), congratulations and THANK YOU!
And I’ll try to keep the posts short and sweet, so as not to bore you all!
Does anyone else have stories of you and your SO not hitting it off in the beginning?
Happy Tuesday, Bees!
