When I was about 11 or so, I believe my nose was broken (wasn’t confirmed since I didn’t see a doctor) which caused a huge bump on the bridge as well as the inside of my nose collapsing making it hard for me to breathe. The the breathing part was’t a huge issue (I got used to breathing like this) but the bump has been a huge insecurity of mine. My profile is just hideous. I have a witch nose.
After we got engaged last October (in 3 days it’ll be our engage-aversary!) and I started planning I put photography as one of my top priorities. Next to open bar lol! Upon researching photographers and checking out their work I started to get more and more insecure about my facial profile. I want to look happy, glowy and carefree on our wedding day. I don’t want to worry about keeping my eye on what angle the photographer is at. My wedding was my motivation to bite the bullet and schedule a consultation, but isn’t and has never been the reason WHY I want the nose job. Just wanna put that out there… 🙂
Anyway, so after months of saving and researching I am FINALLY getting it done tomorrow at 1pm! (Both the cosmetic part and the breathing part!) I am getting nervous. Anything medical related freaks me out! I was hoping that there are some bees out there who have had a rhinoplasty or any kind of cosmetic procedure who’d be willing to share their story and experience?

Good luck!! 🙂 I would like to have that done, but don’t have the means to do so. I broke mine when I was young so it’s crooked and I have problems breathing, BUT it will have to wait if I ever decide to do it. lol But hope everything goes well! Keep us posted!! I’d like to know how the experience was.

As the patient it can definitely seem like a huge and rare ordeal, but know that to the cosmetic surgeon this is generally a relatively routine procedure. He/She will have tons of experience and you have nothing to be worried about. Good luck and recover well.

heyitssamyrae – Thank you! I will definitely update… though maybe not tomorrow because I’ll be all drugged up from the prescriptions haha! But definitely after I get the cast removed. I didn’t think I could afford it either but after the consultation he told me that my health insurance would most likely pay for a huge portion of it since it is a medical issue and turns out, they are! Definitely something to look into if/when you’re ready to check it out further.
Ms Bramblepatch – Thank you, that’s a good point, you’re right! This is certainly his forte. I’ll try to keep that in mind this evening and tomorrow. 🙂

Wow, exciting and scary stuff! The pp is right, this is routine for them and you’ll be just fine. I’m excited for you! I, too, have had mine broken and it’s crooked and has a bump and I HATE my profile. I don’t really have trouble breathing (beyond many sinus infections which probably isn’t really related to my nose per se) so I doubt I’d be covered for a surgery but good for you!
I’d love to see before and afters if you’re comfortable with it, but if you’re not I totally understand! This is, after all, the internet, lol.
Good luck tomorrow!!

Good luck. I hope you love your result and have a quick healing process.
I had tons of cosmetic stuff done before the wedding (though no surgery), and I’m so happy that I did. The wedding was just and excuse to work on myself and feel better about the skin that I’m in. And I do. I hope you will too. 🙂

I have been reading your blog and I am excited for you! It is going to go so well. Just remember the doctor has done this procedure a thousand times most likely, so it will be a breeze! I hope you recover quickly and pain free!

I broke my nose when I was younger and had a rhinoplasty to fix it when I was 18. It corrected a lot of what I was insecure about, but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s perfect. But that’s ok, I’m ok with how I look! The surgery itself wasn’t really bad. I was totally out of it for a day, and then after that I had mild pain but serious bruising. Black and blues all over my face. They went away within a couple of weeks. I wish you nothing but the best! I’ve never been sorry I did it.

Guess what? I’ve had one 😉 ! I had mine in Dec 2009 . I also broke my nose as a child and had a huuuge bump that I hated. It didn’t help that my nose was on the large the side either> when I was growing people called me Tucan SAm… yes mean middle schoolers.
I’m going to be SUPER honest about my experience 😀 But even though what I tell you might sound scary, it was completely worth it!
So, what can I tell you about my procedure and recovery? I was pretty much miserable for about 2 weeks. Good News? I’ve totally forgotten about those 2 weeks and I’m sooo happy I did it! I was sooo groggy from the pills for about a day after. Apparently I had some bad bleeding through the night and my mom had to take me in to the doctor’s office at midnight. I remember the days after the surgery it hurt pretty bad. Anything close to touching my cast sent shivers down my spine. I couldn’t breathe cause my nose was clogged up by blood clots. After a few days when the blood was old and dried up it smelled aweful and I couldn’t do anything about it. I had to sleep sitting down cause it was easier to breathe that way. My face got really swelled up and I had hematomas that lasted for about a month. My nose was pretty sensitive for about 2 months. Even kissing my honey was sort of painful.
Buuuuut . It all went away, and I’ve forgotten the days of not being able to breath through the nose and bloody q-tips and swelled cheeks 😀 .
Also, when I got my cast removed I almost cried because my nose looked soooo weird and narrow and thin. My doctor told me that it’s normal becuase that way it’ll “settle” into the intended form. And it did :D.
I’ll pm you with my before, during, and after pics!!!
Good luck, you’ll be fine!

Hope you love it 🙂
My big appearance improving splurge post engagement was laser hair removal, because I feel like even if I shave my underarms in the morning, I have a “shadow” there by evening, and cringed thinking of the photographer having to photoshop out my gross armpits in 200 pictures. Haha. It was SO worth it and I haven’t even gotten married yet!

Hey everyone! So yesterday was the big day! I got a phone call from my surgeon’s receptionist at 8am saying they had a last minute cancellation and asked if I could come in early so by 9:20ish my mother, my baby sister, and my aunt were at the hospital. I wasn’t that nervous in the morning. I think it was because my baby sister was there and all the nurses were gushing over her cuteness! (She’s just 3 months) Around 10:30 they wheeled me into the surgery room and the last thing I remember was going around a corner and thinking “Whooaaa I think the medicine is kicking in.” and that’s it!
I woke up about 1pm feeling pretty good because I didn’t sleep much the night before but that feeling dissolved the longer I had to stay there. I had to stay in the recovery room without my mother for about 3 hours because my heart rate was at 140 as a side effect from one of the medicines I received. Once it finally went down my mom came back and helped me get dressed and after moving around I got a bit sick and the nurse gave me a dissolving pill that helped subside that feeling.
I got home about 4:30 and my fiance showed up about 5 minutes after I did. I spent most of yesterday falling in and out of sleep on my recliner. I wasn’t feeling very great because my nose was bleeding a lot, but that was to be expected. I did throw up once yesterday after I tried to eat some spinach but luckily that was brief and I felt okay again afterwards. I barely slept last night and today have been taking cat naps throughout the day. I have been taking my pain meds every four hours and am not in pain. Just really uncomfortable and just feeling yucky.
My face has definitely gotten more bruised and swollen today. Especially in the corners of my eyes because he had to break my nose. I have been putting frozen peas on my face a lot more today than yesterday. My fiance is about to get me some Vitamin C chewables so that should hopefully help with the bruising. I have been taking Arnica too.
I haven’t much else to update on at the moment. I’ve just been in my recliner all day today and watching cartoons. I had two nurses call today to check up on me so that was nice. I will go in next Friday to get the cast removed.
