Have you thought about just searching the internet for ribbon with the embelleshment your looking for already there?
If you are having a fondant cake, use a dressmaking pin the same colour as you ribbon to secure the ribbon at the back of the cake. If you fold the edge over neatly it looks fine.

decided to put ribbon on our wedding cake well i went to buy the ribbon and all they had for navy blue was plain ribbon with no detail so i was thinking of adding something on it to make it sparkly but was not sure what typle of glue or what i should use to attach it to the ribbon since it is going to be put on our cake any suggestions ?
