So first comes the story, and by far the most ridiculous thing I’ve had happen to me in a long time. So I went to A Bridal World in Raleigh NC to try on dresses, not knowing what to expect I was a little weirded out when I found out half of the store was actually a thrift shop and the other side was a “Bridal Boutique,” but whatever I figured I’d still give it a shot. After hearing one of the employees spout off a million rules for browsing the store and trying on (pretty much dont touch anything unless you wipe your hands down with baby wipes, no pictures, only allowed to try on 2 dresses, ect), I still decided to look around even though I was a little turned off.
I ask if they have any Alfred Angelo or Impressions dresses and she says..”Well we do but sometimes they design under a different name, but we remove all the tags from the dresses anyways for copyright reasons” WTF??
I found one dress to try on, had the bridal consultant pull it and went to the dressing room. She had me step into the dress (she failed to unzip it all the way) grabbed it with both hands and went to pull it up over my hips and :::RIIIIIIPPPP::: is all I hear. She starts to panic, talking about how the owner is going to kill her, says maybe she wont notice then tells me she should really tell her it ripped. She then asks me…”Will you tell her you ripped it so I dont get written up? I could get in big trouble”
Are you kidding me? I felt like I was on some sort of hidden camera show. Shes borderline begging me to take the blame for ripping the dress.
I get dressed, leave the dressing room and immediately tell my fiance what had happened, as I overhear the bridal consultant telling the owner “Yeah she pulled it up and it just ripped, I told her not to” The owner proceeds to come up to me and yell at me that it’s an $45-$85 repair to sew the zipper back in and I’ll need to pay it or she will sue me. Obviously I told her about the employee asking me to take blame and leave the store…now the few bad reviews they have on yelp seem to make sense
Anyone else had anything this ridiculous happen in a bridal shop?
On another note I’m pretty sure I found my dress at another place…yes or should i keep looking?

@cupcakesnpies: Whoa, that’s really strange.
I like the dress you’ve picked, but the dropped waist and big skirt make you appear shorter. Have you tried other silhouettes?

@somethingaquamarine: I tried on a few, any type of ballgown makes me look ridiculous since I’m short with fairly big boobs and I dont want anything really tight around my legs. I dont really know if theres anything that will not make me look short since I’m 5’2. I think maybe I’ll try a mermaid style just to see how it works

@cupcakesnpies: im 5″3 and got a mermaid and it mades me look taller or at least i feel taller ; ) you look gorgous in your dress

@cupcakesnpies: I think a mermaid with a more flared skirt or an A-line would be more flattering. I do like the floral appliqués and the rouching on that dress, though. It’s a nice look.

Gosh, what an awful store! Good on you for sticking up for youself, I can’t believe they would try to pull something like that.
Your dress is lovely, but I agree with the PP that perhaps a softer modified mermaid/trumpet would be more flattering. I feel the ruffles need to start a little higher, the current style kind of cuts you off a little.

OMG that is the most ridiculous story I’ve ever heard! I’m glad you told the truth to the manager, because surely the shop assistant must have known the manager would try and CHARGE you for damages, if she was that scared of being fired. Jeez.
That dress really flatters your curves! Although I’m not sure if it’s the massive flower, or because it was a sample, but the neckline looks a little high on you? I don’t know.

I went there too! I fell in love with a dress, but I couldn’t find out who the designer was. They called me on monday to let me know it had been sold but I could order another one but it would be a $60 rush fee, and and extra $100 to get it made in white on top of the $25 shipping fee. I didn’t want to pay that but I was going to because I loved the dress so I went there the following monday to order and try on another dress I had liked and then the owner called the company and told me there was no way to get the dress I really wanted on time. I left the store crying. I still have dress regret and settled on a different dress. The dress was originally $1100 but with all the fees and stuff they were trying to add it would have been over $1400.

@cupcakesnpies: You know, I like this dress and think it’s pretty but agree that it shortens you…I would keep looking!

It is so pretty, but shortening…post pics after you try a mermaid- I think that style would suit you:)

@cupcakesnpies: That’s crazy!
To echo PP’s, I’m totally digging the way that bustline/waist fits you but the bottom half of the dress doesn’t do your (clearly nice) figure any justice! My SIL is 4’11”, busty, and hippy, and she wore a fit and flare dress that looked beautiful on her. I would lean in that direction!
Let me see if I can find a pic…

I agree, that is the craziest story that Ive heard so far! What a terrible experience!

@cupcakesnpies: Personally I think it overpowers your small frame. Its a little too busy up top & at the bottom. Maybe find a dress that has one or the other.

I can’t believe you had to deal with that crazy store! I like the dress on you, but I have to agree with the PP’s, I would keep looking:) This may not be THE ONE!
