I’m not a girly girl. I dont know anything about jewerly and i I have no idea what clarity is at all? i read a recent post about someone asking how much a 1ct diamond cost, and everyone posted that it should cost around 12,000! that is crazy. my total ring is nearly 2ct and it wasnt even close to being that much. But i have no idea what my ring clarity is. its looks like a good diamond. yeah it gets dirty really fast but i just thought that was because of the setting my diamond is in. Is clarity really that important??

It depends on what you’re looking for. Clarity is how many imperfections your diamond has. It ranges from a scale where you can see the imperfection with the naked eye vs. seeing it under a microscope with x10 zoom and up.
To me, clarity was important as well as the color of the diamond. I found that was more important to me over the carat size. Everyone is different though…to some, the quality of the diamond isn’t as important as the size. It’s totally your preference.

A single 1 ct diamond will cost a lot more than a bunch of little diamonds totalling 1 ct or even 2ct depending on the make up of the ring. It’s very possible for a 1ct solitare ring to be upwards of 10-12k depending on all 4C’s… while a 2ct total ring can be only say 2k. (wild guess) Clarity is only as important as you make it..

I have a 1.3 carat diamond that was in the 10k-12K range. To me the clarity and cut of the diamond was more important then the actual carat. I wanted my diamond to really sparkle.

@pinkshoes: actually yes my ring was a little over 2k, and i thought that was expensive. I tried to ask my fiance what the color was (even though i dont know what a good color is) and he had no idea. yes i can see some imperfections in my ring but i have to be staring at it for a while. but nothing super noticeable.
I never really cared about the quality and clarity before, i dont know why i all of a sudden care now.

Clarity is also more important with step cut shapes. Its much more difficult to see an inclusion in a round stone than an emerald/asscher cut. Honestly its personal taste. I would not worry about rings that other people have or how much yours is worth. I’m sure your FI paid a reasonable amount for what he got, and if neither of you know/care about the stats then there is no reason to try and figure out what they are.
