Honestly, when we first decided to get engaged, we hit hard times too, and I ended up with a white sapphire from Zales for a few months, and I still wear it on and off!

But we were looking at getting an aquamarine, because thats our birthstone and sometimes I really get upset that I never got one, because I love them. If you want a blue stone, rock it. Here’s some gorgeous blue topaz rings from etsy!!

And this is my favorite 🙂

This was my favorite piece of jewelry before I got my e-ring, light blue topaz ring, which is now retired because my e-ring gets its own hand! lol

Not the best picture of it, it was a little dirty. But when it’s clean it is super sparkly! Also, on many occasions there were people who had mistaken it for an e-ring, because it was such a light-colored, large, sparkly stone on my left hand!

I say rock the blue topaz!

ETA: blue topaz is my birthstone, and I love it 🙂

I was going to suggest Etsy also. They have SOOO  many things to pick from. You just type in what you are looking for and you will have tons to look at.

Good luck and show us what you decide to get!

I personally don’t think that blue topaz or sapphire say “engagement”. Call that the “marketing/society” in me. I would say wait until you can get a diamond.

You can get an entire wedding set at Zales for only $450–and it would be REAL.

I vote blue topaz, then wear it as a RHR when you get the moissy ring.

Are you planning on getting a sparkly wedding band?  If so I’d get that instead, since that will probably be cheaper than the solitaire and will be more cost effective in the long run, since you’ll be buying something you’d already planned on purchasing.  You could also get a cz ring similar to the solitaire as a stand-in which would be a cheap-yet-pretty option.

If you still prefer white sapphire or topaz, check out Overstock.  They have many pretty rings – white sapphire will be a more durable forever option.

I love blue topaz.  Mine is vintage from ruby lane. Cost about 150 bucks.

I Loooooveee blue topaz, particularly London blue topaz, so I say, rock that. There’s a bee with a stunning LB topaz ering that makes me drool. I hope she’ll post hers.

I say go with the blue topaz! It’ll have special meaning since it is your SO’s birthstone and it won’t fall by the wayside when you get your moissanite since it’ll be completely different. I think you would forget about the white sapphire ring entirely once you upgraded.

I voted for other, because while I like the color of blue topaz, I prefer darker colored gems like sapphires and fire opals. Although, I love that pic from etsy ccantics had posted up above…the one with the blue topaz in a halo setting…*drool*
