Oh wow! J, my SO, has told me that he wants to take me ring shopping this week! I’ve never stepped foot in an actual jewellry store and I have no idea where to go or what to do or..what to expect. Do we go to the mall and look around in chain stores? The large mall near us has 3 or 4 jewellry stores in it such as Kay and… Ben Bridge? I don’t even know what’s there just that I’ve walked by a few places and thought “oh look, shinies.”
Do we go to smaller stores downtown that aren’t in the mall? I’m in Portland Oregon and I’ve seen some places randomly that I didn’t really take note of.
I’m assuming I can’t take pictures, so mental notes only.
Any advise beyond the obligatory “Stop over thinking this!” 🙂
(side note. I wish we had a dancing banana animated emoticon!)

Try on different cuts to see what you like, then try on different sizes of those cuts. The place we went to look offered us wine or beer while we looked. It’s all a lot of fun. Just enjoy it, and if you don’t see anything you fall in love with, try a different store, or go shopping another day. Have fun and congratulations!

You might want to do some online browsing too, so you have an idea of what you might like before you go in. Also, just do some research on stores in your area, to see what’s out there. There’s a ton of posts on here of different rings, see if any catch your eye so you’re not trying on a ton. You might also want to do a bit of research on the stone you want also. Are you thinking of going with a traditional diamond? Birks (A Canadian jeweler) has some really good info on their site here: http://birks.com/en/static/diamond_learning/diamonds.htm
