I heard the strangest thing today at the gym when a few of us were talking about our ring sizes... "They" say that whatever size shoe you wear thats the approximate size of your ring finger. If you are on the heavier side you can go one size up from your shoe size & if you're slimmer go one size down.
It proved true for everyone but me... I have gigantic hands. Like, I can palm a basketball. Seriously. lol my FI makes fun of me all the time for it. I just read on another post that someone has a size 3.5 finger & I almost fell off my chair! It put my ring size to shame lol & just fed into my big hand complex.
So is this fact or fiction? Is your ring size the same as your shoe size?
Not even close. My shoe size is an 8-8.5, and my ring size was a 4.75. But I'll check with other people. :)
I second Marigold:
Shoe: 9.5/10
Ring: 5.5
Long skinny feet and long skinny fingers.
My shoe size is a 10 narrow, and my ring size is a 7.
I feel you on the gigantic hands! I can palm a girls' ball and a boys' ball!
I have teeny tiny feet for my height though.
Might be true for some, but definitely not me! I wear a 9.5-10 shoe, and size 4.5-5 ring.
It's actually true for me! I wear a size 3.5 kids in shoes (technically a 5 in womens depending on the shoe) and I have a 3.5 ring size :)
Not true for me either though I feel like I have pretty weird sizes on both haha.
My shoe size is an 8 or 8 and 1/2 but I am barely pushing 5.3 so I feel like those don't match. My doctor told me it could have been because of my thyroid problems that I didn't grow taller and maybe I was supposed to be tall since my mom is pretty tall. But I am totally fine with being short <3 I just wish my feet were smaller!
My ring size is a 6 1/2, but the guy who sized me said I could wear a 6 and even a 5 1/2 if I wanted but I don't like my ring to be tight at all. I just feel like I have big fingers lol, I don't know. I have long skinny feet and toes and fingers to match but I just think they could be smaller and more petite.
But hey I guess we gotta rock what we got huh?
LOL, works for me- 6.5 shoes, 6.5 rings. I could probably go with a 6 or 6.25 ring, but I like a little space since I live in the super hot southwest.
For my fella it doesn't work, he is a 10.5 shoes and an 8.5 ring.
Hmm, my fiance wears a size 13 shoe, but I'm not sure about his ring size. (We haven't done wedding rings yet!) He can't fit my ring on his pinky much farther down than the first knuckle. Maybe his ring size is a 13? Doubtful.
This would work for me only for some kinds of shoes. I vary in shoe size from 4.5 to 6 depending on the shoe style... Yes, I have tiny miniscule feet :-[ Ring size is 5.75.
It doesn't work for fiance though. Ring size 8.5, shoe size 11.
I've totally heard that before too! I thought I might be the only one that didn't 'match' the idea.
I'm a shoe size 8 and a ring size 6.75.
I'm a shoe size 7, and ring size 5.25. Funny, seems like all the size 7 shoe ladies have a 5ish ring size...
One thing that I have heard is that your foot length is supposed to be the same length as the inside of your forearm. I've seen it work for a ton of people, but my feet are 3 inches short of making this work.
Anybody else tried that? Try it now! lol.
@fiftyfootbride -- I have heard that, and tried it! It does work for me, perfectly.
Yeah, I don't think this is true. For one thing, there is no international standard for ring/shoe sizes. In France I wear a 39 shoe and my ring size is a 53... Also, ring sizes can dramatically change if you gain or lose weight, as far as I know this does not apply as much to feet.
I guess this works for me, my shoe size is a 4 to 5 and my ring size is a 4.25.
It wouldn't make any sense for this to work for everyone though.
*raises hands* you might have been talking about me! I am ring size 3.5!
Needless to say, my shoe size is NOT the same (I wear size 6 US). hahaha would be really weird if I wore 3.5 size shoes... ACTUALLY, come to think of it, I am size 3.5UK for shoes...
I'm not going to re-read all the above posts, but maybe the article is about US ring sizes and UK size shoes?? Would the article then be true for anyone else?
Doesn't work for me either. Wear a size 8 shoe and 6.5 ring (and I'm a bit overweight right now so I think when I lose it I'll probably wear a 6).
Hmm.....I'm not sure what my UK shoe size is, but my US shoe size is 8.5 - 9 and my ring size is 4 so it doesn't apply to me if we are talking US sizes.
Interesting though....
I have gigantic feet, but normal (?) fingers...
shoe size: 9-10 (depending on shoe)
ring size: 6.5
@ fiftyfoot that is totally true for me... I guess I have freakishly long arms also! I really don't understand why I'm not tall... everything else is long! I'm only 5'5"
my fingers feel fat right now... lol.
ring size - 7.5, shoe size - 8.5, and i am on the "thinner" side so if i do that then it works for me! but why are my fingers so chubby? lol.
@fifty - i also have small feet for my height, 8.5 and i am 5'10"!
Hmmm - not at all for me - my shoe size is 6.5 and I wear a 4.5 ring!
i love all the size 10 feet out there!
my ring size is 5.25 and foot size 10. i'm only 5'6 though - my feet didn't want to stop growing i guess. :)
Oh geeze! I either have big feet or tiny hands. I'm a 7.5-8 in shoes, a 3.5 in rings. The woman who took my ring size didn't believe me at first. Even after she measured my finger, she kept asking "Are you sure? Are you just really cold?"
Haha..thats funny but not ture for me! My shoe size is a 7 1/2 or 8 and my ring size is a 3 3/4...big difference!
@ Fifty - you're the only person I know that it DIDN'T work on... Just be glad your feet aren't 3 inches longer!!!
My shoes are size 10. I was an 8.5 before children. Ring size - consistantly a 7.5
@mechiebaby- Pfft, not freakish, you can just reach more stuff! lol.
@Querida- lol I know! My shoe size is easy to find, so I don't mind having proportionally small feet for my size. If they were three inches longer, I'd have like long skinny boats for feet. I guess like kayak or canoe feets!
@querida- you went up 1.5 sizes after children?! i'd always heard that was a possibility...i may have to do foot binding when i'm pregnant so that mine don't get any larger. :)
Your feet usually grow between 1-2 sizes from pregnancy. I don't speak from experience, but I think that this is a widely accepted fact. :p
