It’s really hard to say, but I like my ring with a *little* give especially in the summer. Sometimes I wear a tighter ring guard on top of my e-ring and that absolutely does the trick. It’s just a plain thin band, barely noticeable but it’s about a quarter size smaller than my e-ring.

How long have you been wearing it?  I’d wear it full time for a week to see how you do at various parts of the day.  My fingers swell most in the morning and night.  During the day my ring is pretty loose but I’m okay with that since getting it smaller would mean not wearing it at all during the other times.

If you wear it full time for that long and it’s always loose, see about getting it sized down a quarter size.  That would probably do the trick for you.  Lots of people tell me my size is 5 1/2 but in reality I need a 5 1/4.

Get your hand wet and see if you can fling it off.  If you can’t, I wouldn’t get it any smaller.  When you add your wedding band it will feel smaller.  I got mine about 1/4 size too “big” but it’s really not, it’s just comfortable.

Can you go down to a quarter size? I was inbetween 1/2 sizes, so i went with a .25 and it was a perfect fit! A little wiggle room, but not too tight when its hot or my hands swell.

I think as long as it doesn’t fall off when you shake your hand or when your hand is wet, it’s a matter of personal preference. My ring is also about a quarter size to a half a size too big too, but I did it intentionally because there’s nothing uglier, IMO, than ring muffin top. Congrats on your engagement!!

@littlegraykitten: ring muffin top – LOL! I hate it when I try to take a pic of my ring and squeeze my fingers together and get that little roll 🙂

@Anxiouspeanut: Sorry to get off topic there…I think the PPs have great advice. The wet ring fling should give you a good idea if it’s too loose.

If its loose now, it’ll probably be even looser in the winter.  I got my ring last May and it fit, but then winter, it can slide right off.  I’m giving it another summer before I decide cause I cant remember how tight it gets in the summer.  But I remember sizing myself last summer I couldnt get a 4 on, but when I sized in the winter, a 4 slid right on and off no problem.  Stinking fingers just change too much!  You could just put a sizer on it every winter as needed, that what I’ll probably end up doing.

@littlegraykitten: ring muffin top!?! too funny.

I would give it some time…especially since we are coming up on summer.  On a day to day basis, I would say my ring fits a little loose.  But in the summer when I am hot, or when I am at the gym, it’s pretty tight because I am warm.  In the winter though, if I am cold it gets VERY loose and I have to be careful sometimes that it doesn’t come off.  It’s personal preference…I would say give it a little bit of time.  You can always size it down later.  Maybe try getting a cheap ring guard from Claire’s and wear it for a few days and see if you like it tighter better.  Then, you haven’t done anything permanent to the ring without being sure.

@pinkshoes: a) Where did you get that sizer? It looks so much better than the cheap Claire’s ones I suggested.  Something like that would be great for me in winter! b)Is your ring verragio? Aside from one small difference, the profile of my ring looks EXACTLY like that!

My fingers definitely swell in the heat so I would hold off until you know how your ring feels in warmer weather. I was sized at a 5 originally and my fingers started to swell as the weather warmed up here, to the point that I could no longer wear my ring comfortably. So I just got my ring back from being sized up to a 5.5. Also, it will probably feel a bit more snug once it’s paired with a wedding band.

@BridalNerd:its actually clear fishing line that i tie onto it.  I didnt like the one at claire cause it stuck out so far and was so bulky on the ring.  and nope, its not designer… its from a local jeweler.
