Hey everyone… I have a question
So in Colombia we don’t have a huge engagement ring tradition, but it’s becoming more and more popular. However, diamonds tend to be smaller, almost all of them are round, cast in solitaires, and in general a bit more… discrete. So when FI proposed with a 1/3c princess cut ring with two 1/6c princesses and 4 1/8c baguettes on the sides, I almost fainted and thought I would need a bodyguard. Yes, I know what you’re thinking.
And when I came to the states, and as I started observing around here, I started seeing these HUGE ROCKS… and well… I feel stupid.
Not because I don’t love my ring. I see it and I just love how unique it is and how FI knew exactly what I wanted… I mean: he knew I loved the rarest diamond cut in Colombia and he set himself to find a ring that didn’t have one but THREE. I once tried to picture it with a bigger diamond and still think it would look ridiculous. No: I wouldn’t see myself with another ring, just as much as I can’t picture myself with another guy. It’s perfect for me.
But I can’t help but feel stupid when I see flashier rings… Like mine’s not legit. I know, it’s silly, but I just wanted to let that out of my system.
Any of you bees have a smaller, little sparkling treasure like mine?
I’m including pics (Be nice!)
This is it in the box… He got it at my (deceased) grandmother’s favorite jeweler!
This is it getting a nice tan at the beach
Aaaaannnd 2 little artsy pictures I took when we got engaged (I prefer the sepia one but the ring looks kind of blurry in it).

MrsMusicBird111: Oh my. That is very sad that you are feeling down about such a treasure that you have there. It really upsets me when I read things like this. Your ring is Gorgeous!! Please don’t feel stupid or feel your ring is not “legit” of all things!! It’s a gift and symbol of your engagement, meant to be cherished, not compared to others. You are so lucky to have it and a wonderful person to go with it!

MrsMusicBird111: Don’t feel down about your ring. It is absolutely exquisite. The stones are beautiful, and I love the design of it. It is truly beautiful and perfect. I think it’s a real treasure, just like your sweet and romantic FI. (I read your proposal story in your other thread — so wonderful, romantic, and beautiful!!)

GemmaBella: longtimemrs: Aww! Thanks
I guess I sort of needed to let it out and read it to see how silly I was. So there! It’s my profile pic now. Anyway… by the ridiculous amount of pictures I’ve taken of this ring, one could tell I really love it 😉

Please don’t feel down about your ring! It’s so pretty and sparkly and I love that he bought it at your grandmas jeweler! It’s so hard to keep up with diamonds in this country because the rocks just keep getting bigger. My ring is certainly dainty and doesn’t hold a candle to these ginormous paperweights everyone rocks in my area, but at the end of the day I remember what it stands for.

I think your ring is absolutely stunning. The stones are gorgeous and I think the size is nothing to feel bad about at all. In fact, if I were to see your ring in person, I’d remark on the beauty of the stones and would never have even thought anything expect- wow! Gorgeous! Many women from the US have smaller rings than yours and love them- i know it’s hard not to compare but it’s a losing game for so many reasons.
You have an incredibly thoughtful fiance and an absolutely beautiful ring. Long may you enjoy them both.

Don’t feel bad! mine is 0.71ct Emerald shape, defintely not as big as some engagement ring and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! it’s not always about the size 🙂

Mrs.DK: Wow!! Your ring is beautiful!!! Love the design, and that pretty emerald cut. It looks so elegant and kind of vintage, too.

Your ring is absolutely gorgeous!! Wear that stunner with pride! It’s a shame but there will always be someone that will be a debbie downer and rude and try to say your ring isn’t big enough, sparkly enough, the right color, cut etc etc etc. Just ignore those people and enjoy your lovely! It really is gorgeous so rock it with pride!!

MrsMusicBird111: Your ring is so beautiful! Definitely not small.
I have a dainty solitaire but I love it. I have had a bit of envy towards people with bigger rings but at the end of the day FI chose it for me and he loves me with all his heart, and that’s what is important to me! Your ring is very beautiful and I cannot stand those who have to have negative input into something that is precious and sentimental.
This is my 0.25 solitaire.

MrsMusicBird111: There is absolutely nothing wrong with your ring and if you are happy with it, that is all that matters. I remember, when I was a senior in HS, one of my close firends got engaged a few months before graduation. When my mom asked me about the ring I told her I almost had to have a mgnifying glass to see the stone, but I remembered my friend was as proud of that ring as any other woman I have ever known with big rings. You seem happy with your ring, so don’t worry about what you are seeing everyone else with.

Your ring is so pretty! and it actually looks much bigger than the stats. My center stone is .45 and sometimes I feel like it’s inferior to all the gorgeous rings you see on here, but at the end of the day it’s perfect for me 🙂
