Bees who got a ring sized down at Zales did they give you the piece of gold they cut out of your ring? Just picked up my wedding band and they told me they melted down the extra and “put it back into the ring” anybody ever heard of this? Feeling like we might have gotten ripped off and considering contacting customer service. Ring went from a 7 to a 6 if that matters. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I had my wedding band from Jared sized from a 6.75 to a 4 and stupid me didn’t ask for the gold piece back! And those bums kept it. I don’t buy that they “put it back into the ring”. Does it look thicker?

I’m pretty sure that places keep the extra gold. Grr…

Do size 7 rings cost more than size 6 rings? What would you do with it anyways?

@louisianablue: I would keep it in case the ring ever needed sized up. Plus you pay for that gold in the price of the ring. If I had bought my ring which comes in a size 7 and had needed it sized up to say a 9 they would have charged me more for the extra gold.

@MedicBride2Be: I took a ring to Shane to get sized (and it wasn not purchased from Shane, but I was taking another ring from Shane there, so I took them both at the same time)- and had a HUGE piece of 18K gold taken out of my ring- it was a thick band. And no, I didn’t get the piece back.
I was pissed when I realized how much they had to take out, and to be honest, I’d say my ring looks “skinner” than it did before. I love it when a place charges you $72 to have a ring sized, but basically profit off of you. It took them literally 5 minutes to size and polish the ring. The craftsmenship was excellent- I don’t lie. But they didn’t need much time, and took my gold!
