@Chani:  I guess anything could happen, but I’ve never heard of it.  Maybe take it down to your jeweler just for peace of mind?

Did it bend? If it bend into a more oval shape, that would explain it turning to one side?

What’s it made out of? If it’s sterling silver, it’s definitely possible for it to bend like that.

@cmbr:  +1 , I used to work at a Dept store and people would try and remove security tags from sterling silver rings to steal them and usually just ended up bending the ring out of shape.

No, it cannot stretch. It can bend and flatten after years of wear, but gold cannot stretch like that unless put on an industrial strength pressure sizer (which some jewelers use to size rings)

Okay, well metal won’t stretch in a perfect circle, so if it doesn’t look deformed, I’m sure it’s fine. 14k gold shouldn’t be that easy to deform. Your fingers get smaller in the winter because of the cold, so your ring might feel bigger.

you can stretch a ring, but it reqires quite a lot of force. you can’t just stretch it by catching it on something.  in fact, it would more likely break the ring open if it’s thin or has a weak spot.  or if it’s a strong ring, your finger will break (or rip off) if you catch and pull on it with too much force. (which is why it’s not recommended to wear a ring while operating heavy machinery.)

@Chani:  Gold won’t stretch, but it might be that your fingers are smaller.  I live in the Midwest and of course it is winter, my fingers are always smaller in the winter and as a result, my rings spin a little more, pehaps that is the issue.

@Chani:  My ring is looser and I agree with PPs that it’s probably because fingers get smaller in winter. Also my hands get so dry, that the lack of friction is also making the ring spin around more.

Your fingers are probably just cold!

it would take a lot of force to bend it…..if you looked at it and it’s still round in shape..not distorted in anyway, it’s fine.  I bent a 10kt gold ring once when I was younger…I got it caught on a door (don’t ask me how) and it totally bent the ring into an strange oval shape…my finger was swelled up too.  So, you would know if it was bent.
