Yup, it's swirling all around my finger and seriously getting on my nerves. We already had it sized down to a 5.5 and it fit a little loosely, but now it twirls and it's driving me nuts!!
yes, mine is, like, spinning and flapping all around on my finger. don't know if i should resize.
Mine does that too and it drives me crazy! I dont want to make it too small thought because in the summer my fingers swell all the time.
I was noticing mine was a little big in the summer and it was twirling and I knew once winter came around it would be falling off me - so I got it resized and now it's perfect - a bit tight when really hot and a bit loose when really cold but perfect most of the time that's the best you can really do!
My jeweller said you MUST get it resized if the diamond twirls and falls to your palm side as you are WAY more likely to damage it!
@Mrs. Martin - That's what I was afraid of. :( Guess it's going down to a 5.
Yikes! This sounds just like me. I got engaged in May and it was a tad big (even though they sized me like 10 times in the store). I just left it to see how it did in the summer and it was ok.
After a couple of weeks I went to the jeweler to ask what temp solutions they had. One was a ring guard and the other was to soder (solder?) two small balls of gold to the bottom. Well I went for the ring guard because I swear my aunt had one she could just pop off and on.
I get my ring back and it is a piece of metal strung across two sides and wrapped around each side. Definetly not easily removable! The ring was WAY small and it got so stuck (plus does anyone notice its a million degrees in jewelry stores?). The lady tells me to push down the metal part and I'm like, I can't, it's stuck. So she took it back and I think used pliers to push down the metal part which is all well and good but it scratched down both sides of my BRAND NEW PLATINUM RING. I was horrified. She was like, you don't look very hapy. I told her why. She told me it was fine, they just had to buff it which helped but didn't get out some of the deep scratches.
I had the ring guard for about 2 wks and it was ok but I was still distraught over the scratched parts so I went back to the jeweler (same chain, diff location) and they took of the guard and attempted to buff it again.
Anyway, not to hijack your thread but now that its much colder, I think I am going to get it resized and make sure they buff out all those marks from before or else get me a new ring!! So just beware if you get a ring guard!!
Also, does anyone have suggestions for wearing your ring with gloves/mittens?
I was unfortunately blessed with bigger knuckles than fingers, so its hard to fit me for a ring anyways, but in the summer mine is pretty tight and in the winter it gets pretty loose, I am thinking about getting it sized a little looser because evn though when I am cold it schrinks, when I wake up int eh morning it will barely go on :(
Mine does this! But I already had it sized smaller, then bigger again ( I found out I was prego a week after FI proposed and didn't get it sized til after I had him) butas I speak it is in my palm...I am just afraid if I have it sized again its going to break!
MINE! My diamond sits quite a bit higher than the rest of the band and when it gets cold or I get my hands wet it goes swirling around my finger. I was debating about whether or not to size it down (it's already a 4.5... yes, I have little baby fingers!) and then the other day I was super dehydrated and POOF! Fat sausage fingers! I couldn't even get my ring off, and when I did there were indentations on my finger from my ring! There goes that idea..:(
Yup! Mine's the exact same way! It really stinks because it moves around a lot b/c the diamond part sticks way up & is heavy-so it moves more too! :(
If it's only a problem in cold weather, instead of getting it adjusted, you could do something temporary like adding a "ring adjuster." It's a small plastic ring that slips on the bottom of the ring and keeps it snug on your finger. That way the ring won't twirl around either.
Seen here: https://ringadjuster.com/Home_Page.html
But you can find similar items all over the internet.
I agree with nomerstoo...
The jeweler told me that our fingers swell during the summer... so I would hold off on resizing it, because it just might fit you too tight next summer! Find some type of spacer.
I am about to get mine sized again because I cannot stand it swirling all around on my finger.
OH AND BEWARE OF RINGGUARD!!! DO NOT get one! When I took it to another jeweler she said "OMG! Who put a ring guard on your engagement ring?!? That will ruin your ring!"
She was able to get it pretty again except for one part that was scratched bad.
Yesterday I was all clamy and sweaty because I was nervous for an interview. I literally could not even turn my ring on my finger, it was so tight.
But any other day, and especially today...it feels so loose, like I need to size it down! I hate the feeling of it twirling around..which it does like 90% of the time. I already had is sized down from a 6 to a 5.25.
Ugh, I hate this
It's normal. Your fingers will retain more water in warm weather than in cold weather, and it will happen every year. You can't change your ring's size twice a year, though; you'll destroy the metal's integrity. Size it so it fits properly in the summer, and consider some sort of sizer the rest of the year.
I know it's a bummer.
Mine changes depending on the weather, but what's weird is that when it's super hot outside, it's also too big! I think something about the metal expanding? And then in the winter it's too loose b/c my fingers are less puffy. So annoying!
I have been having this problem this week. My ring has been a tiny bit too large since I got it, but I haven't ever gotten around to resizing it. Now that it sits a little higher on my finger (above my wedding band) and it's been cold lately, I've noticed it spinning around a lot. I definitely need to get over to the jeweler.
I always have that problem! Even when it's warm outside, it's still a tiny bit loose. But I plan to wear on my right hand after we get married, so I'm keeping it slightly loose b/c it will fit my right hand perfectly.
I had this problem a few months ago. We got engaged in February when it was absolutely freezing. My ring was spinning around my finger but my FSIL suggested not to resize the ring until the summer. I wanted to get a ring guard but I was advised against it because it has the potential to do some damage to the ring.
In the end, we waited until summer and got it resized at the end of the day (when my finger was as swollen as it could be). Probably not the best idea to resize when cold.
Eek! If you know your fingers expand in warm weather.. definitely don't resize! I have the same problem and had sizing balls put in my ring to take it down a half size. It keeps the ring from spinning but I don't have to worry about it not fitting in warmer weather (your finger can still expand around the balls). It was less than $100 for materials + labor. Any reputable jeweler can do it, and the jeweler who you purchased your ring from may even do it for free. HTH!
My weight goes up and down a lot, I got those plastic ring adjusters from Target and they work great! They won't scratch your ring like the guards do and I can just take them off and put them on as needed!
A couple weeks ago I actually LOST my engagement ring because of the cold weather! It totally just slipped off my finger.... I found it in my rug a day after practically losing my mind looking for it.
I'm definitely going to purchase a plastic adjuster! Thanks for the tip ladies :)
I also wouldn't suggest getting your ring re-sized because it weakens the band... to keep getting it resized in winter & summer would ruin your band!
I've been wearing mine on my middle finger since it's too loose now. I just switch it back to my ring finger when decorum calls. ;)
Same here! I am thinking about getting the sizing balls as the ring is slightly loose in summer already.
My fingers fluctuate throughout the day. I ended up using the plastic sizers. I highly reccommend using them temporarily (like in the winter months). You can find them at Claire's. You'll need to cut them down to size, as they come fairly long. I cut mine with a pocket knife and I haven't had any problems. There have been times where I've forgotten that it's on my ring and I'll go to brush hair out of my face and accidentally scratch myself with it, but not enough to do any damage.
Here are some pictures of what it looks like.

As you can see, it sticks out a tad bit.

Mine is a lot looser and will fly off if I'm in the shower and wave my arms around.
(I tend to dance in the shower).
I have actually had to get mine resized twice. I think it's good now but my fingers totally change size.
Mine is loose when I'm cold, too. If I shake my hand enough it will fly off. I wanted to re-size it last winter, but I was told to wait and see how it fits in summer, and sure enough, it's perfect when it's warm. I guess I'll have to just deal with it being loose sometimes since I don't want to mess with my ring by re-sizing too much.

Has anyone else noticed a difference in how your engagement ring fits? My FI proposed in July and the ring fit perfectly but I've noticed since the weather has gotten cold that my ring is practically falling off!! He's worried and wants to have it resized but then I'm afraid it will be too tight and uncomfortable when the warm weather is back.
