i would def get a stand-in for your real ring if your husband wants you to wear something (and I respect his opinion.)  Honestly if it’s that fragile I don’t think it’s worth it to wear it until it breaks- I bet you can get a CZ thst looks really similar for under $100.

As far as upgrading goes… there are so many options!! Keep trolling the Rings board till you see something you like and go from there 😉

I love your story! =) It holds great sentimental value, so I could see why you don’t want it to spoil. How about getting a 10th anniversary ring? Don’t think of it as an upgrade, but a whole new ring. You could also talk to some jewellers about remaking an identical but more secure setting for your proposal ring in a few years time.

@Haine:  +1

I agree that you should get a whole new ring, what about incorporating your current diamond as a surprise diamond on the side in your new one? at .1 cts its definitely a PERFECT size for a surprise diamond and that way your original stone will still be worn every day and a meaningful and special part of your new ring!

@Marguerite78:  Maybe you could get a new made made very similar to it, but a slightly sparklier diamond…

@Marguerite78:  What about wearing your ering on a necklace and getting a 10 year aniversary ring? That way you are still wearing your original ring but still keeping it safe.

As for a new ring, try etsy, ebay or Ruby Lane. I just discovered it (thank you weddingbee!) and it has all sorts of antique rings for a reasonable price.

Pop the diamond from your current ring in another piece of jewellery or work it into your new engagement ring by opting for a trilogy or 5 stone ring.

@Marguerite78:  Personally, I think its disrespectful to your husband to not wear a ring. I understand why you don’t want to wear your current ring. However, I think you need to explain to him again how much it means to you and the trauma you would feel if you lost the original stone because it is so meaningful to you.

Why don’t you buy a cheap stand in until you get your next ring? I do not think you need to feel guilty. Lots of women get rings on their 10th anniversary.

Good luck

you could look into moissanite! i have one and i super love it. and the price too. its durble enough to be a forever stone and you dont have to shell out thousands of dollars. white sapphire, which i have too, is also bright and clean and wonderfully durable but not as sparkey as moissy. pic for refference
