I am looking to set my oval diamond. We’ve been to some local jewelers in the area but none compare to the jewelers online such as James Allen. No jeweler is willing to replace and repair lost sidestones…for free!! The bad thing is my SO doesn’t want to buy online because we would have to send in the diamond to get it set in the setting and he isn’t comfortable with that. He doesnt like the idea of sending the ring back and forth in the mail.
Does your jeweler have a lifetime warranty? If so, what is it?

We got all of our rings/bands (and I bought some earrings) from our local jeweler in Madison WI. Every piece has a lifetime warranty, including replacement of lost side stones, scratches, dings, whathaveyou – anything but losing the main stone. The main stone is covered under our insurance policy.

My engagement ring doesn’t have a warranty, but it’s a solitaire so if the stone fell out it wouldn’t be covered anyway.
I was able to purchase a lifetime warranty from a jeweler where I got some other jewelry from, it was only like $25 or so. I have used it a few times for resizing and once replacing a side stone

I’ve gotten some negative feedback on this in the past… but we got our rings from Zales. Everything is covered by the warranty and diamond bond, so long as I make my inspections every 6 months. Any re-sizing, rhodium dips, stone tightening, regular cleanings, loss of any of the stones (including the center stone). I’m not sure if that would cover a stone they didn’t sell to you though. I also really like that I can be almost anywhere and find a jeweller to inspect or clean it when needed.

My ring doesnt have a warrenty and I didnt’ care for it. I’ve worn jewelery for as long as I can remember and have only had problems with a sidestone once (because I completely bent the ring one drunken night It was a bad design anyways that should have been more secure). It only cost $25 to repair in 10 minutes with me standing there and watching. I dont think it’s worth stressing about a warrenty.

I wasn’t worried about things falling out, I was more worried about it being lost & stolen. My ring came with a 2 year warranty, and after that I can renew for however long I want.

wvlefty: My ring is also from Zales and we paid for the warranty so it’s covered for life.
This actually helped recently when I sentmy rings in to get resized and soldered before the wedding… and the package they sent to corporate arrived empty, which means my ring was stolen in transit. With the warranty, they’re covering the loss and replacing it. I am hoping to have it by the end of this week, since my wedding is next Friday.

Kacie209: Oh my word. I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m glad to know that it’s covered, but I’m sorry to find out from your problem. I hope they get your replacements to you ASAP!!! Have a happy wedding!
PS: I’d be tempted to do one of those “I stole her heart” “So I’m stealing his last name” pictures and add a shady crook with a sign “but I stole the rings!”. That jerk.

I also have a lifetime warranty through Zales. All my stones are covered along with redipping and resizing. I just have to take it in every 6 months. I don’t think it covers loss or theft though so I am thinking I need to get insurance on it as well.

wvlefty: Ha, that actually is a pretty good idea!
Squirrelz15: Yeah, I don’t think it’s covered if it’s stolen or lost on your watch… but is covered it’s stolen/lost on their end!
We do have insurance on the ring, too.

i’ve heard good things about jewelers mutual. I’m going to insure my ring with them once i have it.

My Tacori ring came with a “lifetime guarantee” but they didn’t honour it. I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for those guarantees. Get it insured instead.

i wouldnt buy a piece of jewerly WITH diamonds that didnt have a lifetime warranty! actually my husband luckly is the one who started that rule! on every piece my matching earring and diamond set my mothers ring and my wedding set is well over 9 cts. i am not going to replace any of that with money i already used to buy it!
it covers everything; loose prongs, rhodium dipping, lost diamonds
i know this because i have had to have a prong fixed after damaging it and i lost one of the side stones in my engagement ring! i got everything fixed for free with no hassel same day replacement
only down side is having to have it inspected every 6 months

imhisoneandonly: I need to see a pic of this 9 ct set!!!
My ring is from Tiffany and it has a lifetime warranty, as well as seperate insurance. Glad the luxury up-charge goes towards something haha
