This is a random question but what determines that total weight of the ring? Not carat weight, but how much the entire ring weighs. My ring, for example, is 1 carat 3 stone ring set in white gold, but I have one friend who has a 2 carat shallow diamond solitare set in white gold and hers is so light! What makes the difference?

I think it’s the weight of the gold and how much is “filled” or a hollower ring. I know I’m not making sense but there are very wise women who will answer and fully explain I’m sure 😀

I think most of the weight is in the setting, since you have a 3 stone and hers is a solitaire there is more gold in your ring and that’s where most of the weight comes in. Could be the the actual metal too, perhaps different combinations of alloys used to make each ring. Even though they are both classified as white gold, the mixes of alloys could be different and one may be heavier than the other.

I think its the type of metal that makes it heavier, eg, my aunt has a platinum band, it feels way heavier than a regular gold band.
